Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Alrighty!!!! Fresh back from MCACN and itching to get this truck done and dive right into the Super Bee! Headlights, grille, and front end is done! Time for a check of things: Headlight switch on: horn blows. Hmmm....Left turn signal on: horn blows. Hmmmm again. Time for M22Mikey to use my buddy pass stash!!! Who needs to turn or see at night anyway, right? Heck, they'll hear the horn and get out of the way! Moving on, time to finish up the interior. The glass guys comes out Monday, and after that's done it'll be over to the exhaust shop for the pipe. For some reason, the door photo is sideways, but the closeup on the panel with stainless trim is right side up. Operator error I'm sure, but what do you expect from someone who wires a truck so only the horn works!

The last big item which I'll jump on this weekend is the bed side wood and spare tire. Then a quick cut and buff, a final detail, and she'll be done! More to come next week!!!! Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
We landed from MCACN Monday, and Tuesday I loaded up and headed downtown for the Autorama here in Houston. This is my set up for the 1951 3100 I built for a friend a few years back. He's not doing very well health wise, so I took the time to enter this truck into the show this year to lift his spirits! I really don't care if I win anything except a big smile on his face!!!

His callsign in the USAF was "Rocket" so I stenciled in "Rocket Winery" on the sides of the crates and made it look as if it was branded in with a hot iron. Hope you like! Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Dave, you are a great friend to your buddy! It was a pleasure to see and talk with you again this year at MCACN. Like I said at the show, I love your write ups! Good luck at the show this weekend and let us know how you did!

Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Well, of course there will be Mike. I don't think it'll move quite as fast as this one did since I started it about halfway through the build, but I gotta start something on it. It was good seeing you again too as well as Phil, Gordy, Rich, and BIG (and of course, all the wives too!).
And Bruce, pleasure seeing you too and awesome job on those pictures!!!! I'll have to hit that thread everytime I feel as though I miss the MCACN show which is, ummm...right about now!!!! Cheers Dave |
Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Time to turn my attention to the bed side wood. Add with all the trucks I've done, it's my own design that I think looks great against the lines of the truck. So with saws out and the First Aid kit standing by, I started the assembly.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn0846.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn0850.jpg As you can see, precise measurements and exact dimensions and tools need to be used here. .. |
Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Here's the result after all that "eyeballing"
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn0857.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn0869.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn0868.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn0871.jpg ..and after I fabricated up a throttle linkage and made it appear factory-like, I took her out for the maiden spin! Well, a quick trip around the shop building. Tomorrow I go for the exhaust and hopefully the radio and hood emblems come in! Not much left! Woohoo! Cheers |
Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
I'll be staining the slats to match the bed wood Friday as well as starting to wetsand and buff. I'm hoping for a nice photo shoot Saturday! More to come this weekend!
