Re: Project: Hot rodding a 69 Nova
Thanks for the positive feedback folks. I'll keep adding progress pics if anyone is interested.
Lots of progress. I got the majority of the undercoating off. I still have some small areas to clean up a bit more. Mostly it was removed with fire and scraping. Then cleaned it up with a DA, and wire wheel on the grinder. Also used some paint remover in tight areas. I'm very happy with the condition of the underbody. You never know what you'll find when removing undercoating, but this car was 99% rust free. Just a couple areas of surface rust, which I'll fix with some body work. Also got the firewall stripped. Found a couple numbers under the black paint. Also found big check mark. Not sure what that was for. Here's a few pics. http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...psb59980cc.jpg http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...psfdd068a7.jpg I still have to remove, and redo the seam sealer. http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps3c693272.jpg Also got these 2 pieces done today. http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...pse28c2f80.jpg |

Nice firewall codes; the 'A' is for the black interior stuff, '65' for the paint, and I'm guessing this is a v/t top car with that giant 'V'??

I was wondering what that mark could mean Marlin. Now that you mention it, it does look like a big V. I've never seen this before. I'll probably put the codes back when I'm done, and I should know what the V means. Makes sense to me. |
Re: Project: Hot rodding a 69 Nova
Hi ,very nice work on the car so far.... I have a couple of questions. Did you replace the a arm bushings and then paint them? What did you coat your drag link with to protect it? Are the washers on the upper a-arms bare metal or painted black ?
Thanks Rob |

Thanks Rob </div></div> I prime and paint one coat on the control arms, then install the bushings. Then I mask off the bushings and repaint the black. The drag link has cast iron paint on it. The upper a-arm bushings should be natural or nickel plated. I used a phos paint, but I'll change them before the project is finished. |
Re: Project: Hot rodding a 69 Nova
It's been a busy couple weeks. Got the rest of the bottom striped of all the undercoating. Then sanded it one last time. Then sand blasted the tight areas, that I couldn't reach with the sander..
Yesterday I stuck the whole thing in the trailer, and took it around the corner to Alberts shop, to prime, and paint the bottom in his spray booth. It came out great. Tomorrow it comes back here, and the Elky goes in the trailer for GM Carlisle. When I get back, I hope to start the assembly process. I also found a tack that fits the factory dash bezel. I got the dash all cleaned up, and reassembled/ready to go back in the car. http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps0440ce7c.jpg http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps2994dff7.jpg http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps820dc4fa.jpg http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...psd80401ab.jpg |
