When Ford introduced the new 1968 GT500 KR they also added a new color which replaced this one: Competition Yellow https://images2.imgbox.com/9d/61/vYYSW8BX_o.jpg |
Sorry to hijack the post. but what designates (Is included in) a KR (King of the Road) Shelby? I see some with Dual Quads and some with a single Quad. Is it like a Super Cobra Jet or Drag Pack package with external engine oil coolers, and a 3:91 or 4:30 gear? Just trying to get educated about my Mustangs and all now that I have had my Coyote 5.0 / 10 Speed 2019 California Special for 4 years. It's a Neat Car and it fits through a Car Wash, not like all the Z06's I've had.

All other Shelby's have a single quad no matter SB or BB. The 1968 GT500 KR was a mid year addition. It used the brand new Cobra Jet 428 with Ram Air. The 68 GT500 still used the 428 PI engine only with a single quad The 65, 66 and 67 GT350s used the HiPO 289 engine with modifications which added 35 HP. The 1968 GT350 used the Ford 302 with the addition of an aluminum intake and was rated at 250 HP. The 1969/1970 GT350s used the 351 rated at 290HP. The Drag Pack (introduced for the 1969 model year) used the Super Cobra Jet engine - still rated at 335 HP but had stronger internals. Included was the oil cooler. You could only get it by ordering either the 3.91 or 4.30 rear. Was available in the Mercury Cyclone, Mustang and Torino along with the Shelby. |

Mercury never "officially" offered the HiPo 289 in it's Comets. Supposedly if you were a good customer of a big LM dealer, you could get the Sales Manager to somehow order you one. Less than a handful were sold to the public. But this Comet is special: 1964 East African Safari Rally https://www.hemmings.com/stories/201...n-safari-rally |

I think this photo was taken at Bonaire. A Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Great place for scuba diving. |

I am often surprised at the cool things the Michigan Secretary of State (our equivalent to the DMV) allows. Same year authentic plates (which are permanent after an initial $35 fee), permanent trailer plates, and cool specialty plates. The latest offering is a throwback to the "Water Winter Wonderland" versions, in blue and yellow like above, issued in 1965 and 1967. They have proven to be wildly popular, even among vehicle owners that do not appear to be car enthusiasts. (Maybe they are water and winter enthusiasts). I ordered one up for my Duramax Pickup, and my brother in law got one for my old red '87. K |
----Got one on my Impala SS wagon. Regular numbers, but have already ordered SHAMU2! It may not get here before I leave for MCACN!.....Bill S

My favorite year for the Impala. LOVE the styling que on the roof. You may think of it as a "big" car but it's not really. with the 327/300 HP engine and a manual 4 speed it's Curb Weight is 3700 lbs. Only 45 pounds more than a 1970 SS396 Chevelle |
