Introduced for the 1966 model year, Olds called their Chrome Magnum 500 wheels: Super Stock I. No trim rings. 14x6. For the 1969 model year you could order them with front disc brakes as they sold two different models: One for drum (1966 - 1969) and one for disc (1969 ony) which had a different offset to clear the calipers. They are very rare BTW. Most ordered the Super Stock II wheels. Like other GM products FDBs first appeared for the 1967 model year. The SSII wheels can accomodate them.

The 1970 442 SSI wheels were now 14x7 with chrome trim rings (like the Chevelle SS) were used and would fit either brake package. 1972 would be the same.

The 1971 SSI wheels are once again all chrome like the 66-69 wheels only they are 14x7 and fit either brake package.

Another "Muscle Car Mystery" for Olds. Why did they go back to the original design instead of just keeping the 1970 (and 1972) version for 1971?

From what I can see it has an inside rear view mirror that’s glued to the windshield, really.

Plus, the car could have been ordered (Delete Pinstripes, code 491).
If the car was ordered with the dual stripes on each side, they would be White.

PS, Hood adjustment needed.

Chris, if it had been ordered with red interior, then would the stripes have been red?

Bill,

Yes, Red interior would dictate Red pinstripes on a Black body.
This would be a gorgeous car!

All the other interior trim colors received White (Ivory) pinstripes on Black body.

The most commonly known answer was the company that supplied the 14x7 wheel that used a trim ring could not keep up with demand ( possible strike). A substitute supplier was used and an all chrome wheel was available during production in Mar,April and part of May 1971. I have seen both wheels used on 1971 442 models.

They have been around for about 400 million years. They come in about 500 different varieties. Here are a few you may not have ever seen or heard of.

Angel Shark. Sharks and Rays are closely related. This one is a sort of half and half.

Most sharks haven't changed in hundreds of millions of years. Nature's evolution can only go so far. But a few, like this Lepord Shark are still evolving and it can do something incredible . . . it "walks" on land. That's right - it leaves it's water environment and using it front fins walks. Where does it walk to? It goes from one tidal pool to the next looking for food. Found only in Australia.

Found mostly off the coast of Greenland the Basking Shark is the second largest fish in the ocean - the Whale Shark being the largest - but only by about 5 to 8 feet. Sort of like the difference between a Greyhound Bus and a 2 axle Dump Truck. Like Whale Sharks the Basking Sharks are filter feeders.

So we know who's the biggest. How about the smallest? That honor goes to the Dwarf Lantern Shark shown here as actual size. Very little is know about these sharks because they live in deep water: 900' to 1400'. It gets it's name due to it being bioluminescent

Frilled Shark. When they open their mouths, you’ll be able to see more than 300 teeth. Their faces resemble snakes. They have deep-set eyes and also upright slits for noses, as well as unlike various other sharks, their jaws are placed at the end of their nose as opposed to below them

Most sharks that we recognize as sharks have 5 gills. This one has 6. Called a Sixgill Shark this variety is much older than Great Whites or Tigers or Hammerheads. Why did nature go from 6 to 5 gills? Maybe at the time there was more Oxygen in the water (hundreds of millions of years ago) and it was just an evolutionary change. The way things are changing with our oceans warming up - that means less Oxygen in the water. Will nature adjust? Hope so.

Most sharks are born live. A few come out in egg cases. A female tiger shark will usually have about a half of dozen baby sharks in it's womb but only one is born live. These sharks are so agressive that the babies fight in the womb until only one is left to be born. Prior to birth he/she will eat the losers so he/she is of good size at birth.

At one time it was thought that sharks had to constantly swim getting water through their gills so they can extract the Oxygen or they would drown. Then it was noticed in the Bahamas, groups of Nurse Sharks gathered together sleeping (not moving) on the bottom. So now we know that as long as there is a current moving water over the shark's gills they don't have to swim. They also found Reef Sharks doing the same thing. That does not hold true in stangant water though.
