And now – to answer a question you did not ask – is how they take those cool “in motion” shots that you see as of late (Robert McGaffin photos)

It is attached to the bottom of the car with magnets and then removed post process via Photoshop. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot058.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot059.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot070.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot071.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot072.jpg |
Naturally, there’s a story behind the “behind the scenes” story above:
When we were setting up for the above shot Robert told me that he wanted me to turn the wheels slightly to the left and that we would let the car “roll” while he walked backwards. “Robert” I said “this is 3900 lbs of racecar with a spool - and slicks. It doesn’t just ‘roll’, especially with the front wheels turned”. “That’s ok” he replied. “We’ll just have my faithful assistant give it a little nudge to get started”. “Ok” I said – dubiously. His poor assistant gradually increased his efforts, without much success, until he was quite red in the face and sweating a fair amount. “Tell you what” Robert observed. “How ‘bout we position it at the top of that little hill – and you can leave the wheels straight”. ;) |
The story behind the above story behind the original story:
His driving instructions to me: "Hands at 10 and 2 o'clock....and don't stick your tongue out!" K |

Designed by the Pontiac engineer Herb Adams in the first half of the 60s, the Vivant 77 was a project of considerable effort. Built from scratch in Adams' garage, the Vivant was an interesting prototype powered by a 370 cubic-inch Pontiac V8 engine and equipped with Corvette C2 suspension and Kelsey-Hayes Bonneville wheels. The body was made of aluminum by the "Beatles of Troy, Michigan" a trio of Englishmen - Harry Kennedy, Jack Henser and John Glover - famous in the American hot rod scene for their great job. It had only one appearance at the Detroit Autorama in 1966 |
----Does it still exist??? Really like that!
----Just answered my own question and it does still exist just as shown......Bill S |

Herb's latest effort, the "Contessa".
I have a story about Herb and Bill Porter, but I won't share it here; you'll have to hear it in person. ;) K |
