My family used Minneapolis Moline equipment exclusively beginning in the 1920's until the buyout by White Motors in the 1970's. One of my Dad's brothers was a dealer from the mid 1930's into the 50's. A cousin is well known in collector circles, always showing up at shows with some rare example, including crawlers like this one. Between him and his brother they have about 200 MM's, all shedded and most operational. Several of them have been in the family from new including some very nice survivors. Bill W |
I drove by their plant on University Ave many times, until it was abandoned and removed/renovated. I don't clearly remember what happened to the original building now.
White Corp was the bane of several successful companies, Westinghouse and Freightliner being 2 I remember. |

The claim is unrestored but Chrysler stopped using those wheels after the 1968 model year. And they were never offered in 15". 14" only. |

In an effort to save money on a losing money car, Mercury made the 351-4V standard with no optional 428. Unlike Ford which included the 428 with their Talladega |

:naughty: !938 Minneapolis Moline UDLX. Advertised as a tractor that doubled as a car. First tractor built with a full cab, seating for two, maybe three. Had windshield wipers, sun visor, glove box, cigarette lighter, radio, heater, and a rear view mirror with clock. Top speed 45 mph, there was a sales ad showing a UDLX pulled over for speeding. 125 were built, 100 sold. 25 were returned to the factory because of poor sales including the one my Uncle had at his dealership. Approximately 25 remain today, this one was sold by Mecum Auctions a couple years ago for $200K. Bill W |

That tractor/car is gorgeous, Bill. I'd love to see that one in person someday.

Reminds me of the cartoon I saw describing "turbo lag". Showed a kid in a wagon, hooked to a horse with a rope. Horse = turbo Slingshot with a rock, aimed at the horses hinderparts = throttle Rope with slack in it = lag K |

There was one of those (Edit: two of those) here locally. Diane S owns (or owned) a little hobby farm in Hadley Michigan, north of us. She and her husband had one of the largest collections of antique and orchard tractors in existence. (It was featured in one of the "Dream Garage" coffee table books). https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=616985 She got divorced and I don't know if she is still there or if the collection is still intact. (Or if she is interested in a new relationship with a perennially poor-ish 60 year old nerd that might be "on the spectrum"). K |
----What a collection, Keith. Unbelieveable!.....Bill S

Spectacular collection and presentation Keith!!
Yes, two UDLX there, one being the no-cab version. Also two of the smaller model "R Cab" tractors. Thanks for sharing! |
