I think so, I media blasted it, lightly, lightly, then washed it in solvent, then washed it in Acetone.... and expected no residue. (Looks like huge fish eye craters)

Second coat of paint looks much better... may sand or may start over, or maybe it will be ok as is. TBD.

I have had good luck with wax and grease remover. Is your paint and media blast free of contaminants
Like with any Autobody shop chemical safety first. Correct solvent rated gloves, eye protection, ventilation, respirator and disposal of waste are all important.
We were taught to wash the car/parts first, then wax and grease remover. Only after cleaning was the car/parts ready to be sanded or media blasted.
After sanding or media blasting we would wax and grease remove the substrate again.
Oil from your bare hands after blasting/sanding can contaminate the substrate, that's why we would use clean gloves when handling parts that were in the white/bare metal.
Contaminate free painting is time consuming.
I have seen a shop go nuts trying to find the source of contaminants in their paint process. It was traced back to new techs over oiling their tools.

So I have prepared a few more parts.

I hit the OAI scoops with Back to Black a second time, looking better....

I removed the extra welded plates and bracketry from the Clutch pedal and media blasted and painted the pedals. ( I have the new pads and bushings ready)

The hole in the Clutch pedal for the Clutch rod was way egg shaped, so I bored it out and will make a bushing to freshen it up.

Tomorrow Nick Morocco is visiting to help me assemble as many restores, prepared, purchased (ready) parts as possible.

Saturday Al Corporon is coming to help as well, this will make mounting the bumpers, and pulling the hood off to redo the hinges so much easier. (Side note Evaporusted parts need coated in something other than evaporust.... I may Have read the directions wrong but I thought it said parts can be re dipped for rust prevention... nope they rust.

I am so thankful for all the people who have helped me along the way... and there are still a few long days to go.

What? NO WIPER MOTOR? URGH! Which one of you Placed the Positive Battery Cable in the Wrong Location? One cannot just look at the Assembly Manual, it must also be read.

Looks Great!

I think you owe Dan a coffee. manual trans goes over the valve cover.

oil cap is not correct 68-70 version. looks like you are missing the engine lift loop on the front of the driver side of the intake. Of course there's the balancer too :-)

Postsedan 10-01-2018 01:57 PM

I will email you on how....I like my Coffee....No Tim Hortons Coffee for ME. I will certianly enjoy my EXTRA Large Coffee :)

CRAPPY PiCTURES :(

Either way all your questions will be answered in 6 weeks.....we just want to find what was 100% correct for a 1969 W-31 Four Speed - Positive Battery Cable routing.

King Kong, Ha! You’re more like Curious George, LOL :)

Thanks Chris.

I have the oil fill cap otw (I think it should be painted....)

Also I have the lift hook media blasted just need to paint and install.

I need to find a Californian who will take my original Balancer to Damper Doctor for me. (I can’t bring myself to mail/ship it) I will bring my original to MCACN as a conversation piece.

I would love to have more Info on the battery cable,
I reread the Assembly manual and still think I have it correct, other than right down at the starter I could run the purple and yellow a little more correctly. I also don’t see any pictures or notes stating if the yellow and purple go down the tube or not?

I don't have a '69 assembly manual... From looking at the '68 manual, it shows that all 350 engines went over the inner fender, with the battery cable tube oriented differently depending on trans type. For 400 engines, the auto trans went over inner fender, but manual trans went over engine/valve cover.

I attached pictures of each.

What do the '69 PIM pages say? Did Olds make a change for '69?

I see the same thing in the 1969 Assy Manual.

Late to the party. But you are most welcome.
I thoroughly enjoyed turning a wrench 🔧 on your car.
Great to meet Nick. Just a fabulous day.

I am a little behind on posting progress.

I am moving ahead each day, some planning, some buying last minute parts, some renting a truck and trailer, some actual work on the car :-)

I connected the fuel lines and vent at the gas tank, and of course the left over hose is too short to connect the fuel pump as it is supposed to F&$@.

I installled the cowl screen and cowl seal, and hood stop.

I installed the back seat and peeped the front seats. (Installed one to make space)

So many little things to get right (or close to correct)

I pulled the tail pipes to dress the ends.

I think I can, I think I can.

Ryan W31.

PS: today I was really in a slump, I got lots done but my head and gut are getting freaked out. I need a good sleep and more progress tomorrow!!!

PPS: our Diego, Casey, and my MSU Project W31 article hit MuscleCar Review today.... so proud, and so excited to get the students time at MCACN to share thier story. (You have to get to the panel!!!!, don’t miss it or you will kick yourself for eternity)
