I'm not sure who made it at this point, but from everything I have seen for pics of early glass hoods made in the 60's and 70's, they all seem to look pretty crude like this and have an unfinished look on the underside with layers of glass visible under the resin. I know A&A was a big player back in the day, but don't know if it was actually made by them? Does anyone know who was making hoods for the cars built by Motion, Dana and whoever else was putting out hi-performance cars with fiberglass hoods back in the day?

In discussing the underside of this hood with Ron, he asked me if I wanted the underside fluffed up and I told him no. It's an old original glass hood so lets retain that look on the underside. Also told him that when I roll into cruise night (or where-ever I take the car) that I'll likely gear down, and idle in with that lumpy cam only to shut it down and walk away with the hood pinned down. That'll keep most people guessing or trying to figure the car out from what they can see under and around the car.

The underside was finished up late this afternoon, then dusted with some black paint and sanded smooth to take away all the sharp edges in the fiberglass. This helped keep that vintage look that it had prior to the structural repairs. Ron then flipped it over and applied nearly two packs of matting and 4 quarts of resin to completely layer the top. It will be sanded smooth tomorrow and then it'll be body worked and prepped for paint. It should get some color this weekend.

Great hood! Glad you are saving it. Berry (spelling) plastics of southern ca was another player making hoods. They made the infamous dana hood as well as a lot of the early short back seats for the trans am cars and other race cars.

Graeme, FWIW - You May want to hold off on any primer or colour until you trial fit that hood into your opening. A lot of times those old Fiberglass hoods need material added ( or removed ) to the side & front edges to close up the gaps. We saw that a lot at Western Corvette with the A&A & other manufacturers on Corvette hoods, some of the gaps were brutal wide and not consistent. The repo crossram hoods are sometimes the same in that they need material added along the edges to maintain consistency at fenders and front of hood. Guess it depends how fussy you are.

Got all that handled Mike. The Hood will be trial fit before it gets any color added.
