Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
Problem I see with that is that it would take a LOT of cars bought/sold for me to work my way up to approach Goldberg for his car. Then, I would have the label?

Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
Two of Kims quotes:
[ QUOTE ] he says man I will never sell this car. I have always wanted one of these cars. Then six weeks later it's for sale 7 times more than you sold to him for. That's a flipper. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If a money problem cames up and he has to sells it. I have no problem with that. [/ QUOTE ] Wait a minute here, Kim. You were asking $100K for your Yenko that you bought(probably for peanuts in the scheme of things) 7-8 months earlier from a guy who had no idea it was a yenko and of course you did not bring it up to him. Sooo, 2 months is a flipper and 7-8 month is not?? On the second quote you make it sound like it's o.k. to flip a car if you need the money but not o.k. just to make a profit. That how it appears at least to me. You said you were selling your car to get into another car avaenue. That is not a money problem we are talking about-not being able to buy food for your kids, now that is a money problem. You gave the impression on past post you would never sell it(the yenko) and looked down upon people who did so because they were carpetbaggers who "sold cars for $$ and have no love of the hobby" Bla Bla Bla speech. I see 2-3 inconsistencies/hyprocicies here. |
Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I believe the term "Flipper" would be slapped on someone who strictly buys cars to sell. Lets say you found an old COPO chevelle for 40k and then a week later you see your dream car Yenko camaro for sale for a price you could afford if you sold the chevelle for 80K. You would do it and you are not a flipper, you just happen to find something better in your eyes. I sold a car I was planning on keeping to get my 69 Z/28 JL8 and another totally original black 69 Z. I may now sell or trade the JL8 due to the astronomical offer I have on it to get a 67 or 69 Yenko camaro depending on what I find. I dont have to but basically in the end I will wind up with a Yenko camaro and an original 10-10 M-22 DZ 302 equipted 69 Z for the price of a new mustang. Maybe the new term should be called "Flipping up".

Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I was called a flipper by one of our board members on the other site last week. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif I sold one car in 40 years that I owned less than a year. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I sold one car in 40 years that I owned less than a year. [/ QUOTE ] Aww cmon. That statement would hold water if you bought the car for $16k and sold it for 18K. But buying the car for what you did and asking 100K and selling it 7-8 months later-That is FLIPPING no if's, and's or but's no matter how hard you try to sugarcoat it. |

I "flipped" cars (or what we here up north call "curbing"), to put myself through collage. So i guess im evil!!!. I don't see why people care, i bought it with my money and a buyer bought it with his, why would anybody else care. If i wanted to buy an original yenko and crush it it's my car to do what i want with it, although ethically wrong it's still my car. If someone wanted to give me a bag full of money not to do that am i a good capitalist or a flipper?

Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I sit back and ask myself, why do we worry about some other sites bad mouthing us, starting fights and costing us members? We seem to be doing a pretty good job of it ourselves. It is time that people realize that we are all entitled to our own opinions without being chastized for voicing them. If we were all sitting around a circle at a car show with beers in hand, many of these conversations would be shrugged off as men being boys and arguing for the sake of an argument. Anyone remember doing just that at Christmas time with our dads and uncles in the living room over eggnog? It is not likely that any of us would be asked to leave the circle because we don't all agree on who we voted for the president.
I think some of the other sites are succeeding in doing what they had hoped would happen and they never had to do anything but sit back and watch us self distruct. We did it all on our own and look like fools in the end. Does anyone here agree that it is ABOUT TIME that we all get back to the hobby and allow people to voice their opinions without being hung out to dry and talk about the real reason we are all here? There are always going to be some that are just looking for a fight but for the most part, people are just adding their thoughts to the topic. I know many people that are afraid to voice anything on here for fear of not being accepted. I know that is one reason I seldom offer one. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Rick |
Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
Rick, I agree. We are all adults here. If there are people on this site and other sites that say something that's out of line...shouldn't it just be ignored...or taken off line? I know of a few people who love to stir people up by their comments...I guess that's just their nature. A few of them have been banned here (and elsewhere)for doing just that.
Funny thing is, when you meet these same people in person, they aren't anything like their "portrayal" on the net. I think that when someone can sit anonymously behind a keyboard...they figure they have no accountability for what they say. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I, for one, just love the musclecars...and the people that I've met because of my (and their) passion for the cars. I wouldn't trade the friendships that I've made here for anything. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Just my 3 cents... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

That's exactly what I meant https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Private messaging is/can be a great thing...no need to air "the dirty laundry". I made a fairly rude post directed at Rick H. a few days ago...and realized that I was an idiot for doing so...so I PM'ed him and also apologized on the site.

How many of us have received an e-mail and popped a cork only to find out the author in no way meant it to sound the way it day. My one and only point here is that people really need to sit back and relax a little. After 911 we were all friends and helped each and everyone regarless of race, color or religion. Now we all seem to look for any reason to act like a tough guy behind a key board instead of trying to help each other. I know that was the reason I joined several years ago. Now more often then not, I am told that I am passing along information that should be kept private instead of being told thanks for the help or that I am acting like some sort of expert. I think it is time for a car show so we can all act like who we really are in public and drink a few beers together. There is no point in flexing my muscles (don't have much https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif ) so I just have to rely on good old natured friendship. Maybe more should try it. Everyone here is a stand up guy and has lots to offer. Too often they are looked down upon for voicing their opinions and then there are those that can get away with slamming people here just because of who they are perceived to be or where they stand in rank. I think we are all equals here. [ QUOTE ] If by "taken off line" you mean one on one with a PM, I agree. But I don't agree if you mean a post deleted. I am pretty sure you meant the former though. [/ QUOTE ] However, there are exceptions. Occassionally someone on here gets publically hammered. That can sometimes be a good thing and it is necessary. I remember one such case with Chad and I over the DH Camaro. If not allowed to publically defend ourselves, the instigator would have looked like a hero. Talkin on line allows the person to defend what others have accused them of but it also gives the accused a chance to sit back and look at themselves and see things they need to work on that they did not realize they were doing. Some peoples poop really does stink, they just were not aware of it. Rick |
Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I usually don't get into these altercations but I have a little spare time. Lets see...... I have one truck I've owned since I was 15 years old. I've owned cars for 5 years or more sold them, and lost and made money. I've bought cars and had them a few hours and sold them for a profit. I've rebuilt trashed cars and sold them sometimes immediately on completion or have kept some for years and made money and lost money or broke even on these cars. I've had several nice original cars some I've kept for years some days. I don't think anyone should make accusations on why I do what I do. Hell, If you ask me, I honestly wouldn't give you the same answer from day to day. I love cars I drive the crap out of anything I own. We ALL need to learn there is a place for everyone in this hobby. Just because someone participates in a different way than you it doesn't make then a bad guy. In the immortal words of Rodney King............... Guy's grow up it's not really about the cars it's about the people. If you don't like someone that's fine but somewhere he has a buddy that would love to drink a beer and swap a car story or two so what do you accomplish by making an enemy of someone. How many cars will cry or tell a funny stories about you at your funeral.

No one is answering my questions............. Marlin- if you were to help me locate/get a 68 Yenko Camaro (which I am sure you would if I were in that position), and for whatever reason I had to sell it at some point-- 1) how long would it take and.... 2) what amount of profit would you be comfortable with me making....or 3) what situations (just an example or two) would you find acceptable to you before you felt as though I had just done it to increase my bankroll? THESE are the questions that need defined. Problem is, I don't think it is that easy and also your tolerance level for the three questions above will change depending on the familiarity and relationship I have with you. Right? That is human nature. There are 20 negative responses in this thread alone reagrding the negativity to "flipping" cars. But so far, I haven't gotten any concrete indications of what really constitutes the infraction. [/ QUOTE ] You are trying to fit a million situtations into a simple equation, and it's not that easy. There is no defined time period whereby the 'flipper' status expires, there is always the possibility that when you get the dream car home - the wife tells you to sleep in it, the amount of profit made is almost irrelevant - but does weigh on the sincerity of the reasons given for the quick sale. This stuff is more of a gut feel, 'taken advantage of' feel, it's not too easy to build a protocol out of. Suffice to say, that when someone tells you that 'this car is what I've dreamt about since I was 16...' - and when you (and others) step aside to help the person acquire it, at a good price, only to see it for sale later that week - you no longer trust or believe that person. It's as simple/complicated as that https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
There is no simple answer, but I think there is a common element to the "bad" kind of flipping, and that's dishonesty. If you tell a seller that you'll keep it forever but have every intention to flip it ASAP, its dishonest and should be looked down upon. If in that same scenario you really did plan to keep it but circumstances forced you to sell, then its not the "bad" flipping. So I think its less about how long you have it, but more about your intentions from the start.

Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I've given this alot of thought and want to offer a fair option for everyone to consider...
It's my personal practice to be as fair/reasonable with the sale of cars or car parts as possible, especially if the deal is with a real car person (by gut feel, reputation or other means that I'm comfortable with). I almost never make a bunch of money, but I believe that somewhere, sometime, down the road, someone will return the favor to me when I need something at a fair price. This hobby isn't about the $$$, unless we make it that way (BJ be damned). There are lots of good people that may not have all resources in the bankroll, that are willing to make fair deals. Let's just try to make deals when we can offering the other party benefit of the doubt, rather than "what the market will bear". I'm not suggesting that everyone part with their cars/parts for a song or turn down the banker with a 6 figure cashiers check that he offers you, but try to use some discretion. This may sound stupid, but JMHO. Blair |
Re: 427 Baldwin Motion Nova For Sale
I must be a "Flippee". All the cars I have, I have paid top dollar for. I looked long and hard for the ones I wanted. When I found them, I paid the price. If I make a dime on them when its time to sell I will be suprised and happy.
