That looks beautiful!

Joe, your Camaro is truly one of a kind. Coming along very nicely. Want you to post a picture of when it is done, with you in the driver's seat driving and enjoying it.

----Joe,,, Nobody has mentioned the yellow/white vinyl combo. Let me be the 1st to say GORGEOUS! I love non-regular choices for color combos and your 69 fills the bill to a tee. I may have missed it in the last 24 pages, but does the choice have anything to do with AZ sun? No matter, it's just cool as can be. Can't wait to see it at the Rosemont. Just another reason I love MCACN!!!.....Bill S

The most amazing part of this story besides the latest first class restoration, is the fact that you bought it 40yrs ago, restored it, and then enjoyed it by putting 74,000 miles on it and then now restored it AGAIN!!! That, is an amazing accomplishment. Wishing that you enjoy it for another 74,000 miles.

I wondered that myself. Lots of the ads from Orielly Chevrolet (Tucson) showed white tops. It's 76E & not 76B. Being all the colors makes me think of my Missy, a tortie & white American wired haired cat. :) Looking forward to being in Rosemont also. Last time I was a spectator

Hey Joe,

You should post the pic I took of your car in the 80's at Super Chevy again. :)

Refresher pictures. First 2 were at the guys house the day I purchased it in 1981. Last one is Super Chevy 1982 taken by Bruce. Today it's back to square 1. Nothing went back on the car that wasn't there when I purchased it...Joe

I bought this car because of it's wild yellow interior. I love it more today than the day I bought it. It will get some use after MCACN but not that kind of miles. People don't respect them the same. I drove that car everywhere. It was a daily driver in 1982. At work, it had to sit in the street all day...365 days a year...Joe

Gotta get some slots back on there:wink:

X66 714 05-08-2021 11:37 AM

Naw! I had three 6" rally wheels & 3 F70-14 white pin striped tires that came with the car but the rallys were off another car so this was my best guess as to how Orielly Chevrolet rec'd it. In the 10 months Orielly had the car they probably decided to ditch the yellow wheels & install the rallys from another car. The second owner removed the yellow bumper because he liked chrome. He kept the bumper which I got at purchse time....Joe

That color/trim combo looks amazing. I can't wait to see a shot showing the interior against the paint.

A couple more weeks. We're having a field day mixing a dye for the door panels, head rests & other plastics to match the factory yellow seats. Mostly faded but he's almost there. Door panels were reupholstered originals that Al Knoch did..Thank you,Joe

NorCam 05-09-2021 12:13 PM

Being as detail-focused as you are, I'm sure you'll end up with a great match on the interior colors Joe. Gotta admit I like the old look with the slotted wheels on the car. Maybe a restored set after you've debuted the car?

The car is looking great man!!!

Last week I dug out some more NOS parts for the car....weatherstrips. In 1991 & 92 I purchased enough roof rail, door, & cat wiskers to do both of my Camaros. The Z/28 got them years ago. Now it's time to do the SS. They were only between 20 & 30 buck back then. Found a receipt for one I had to get for a dealer that new it was obsolete. I complained that I think he charged me list plus his cost, at least....79.00 shipped. Gladly pay that today. First time to open. Fit real nice...Joe

A friend of mine just sent some pictures to me on fb that I haven't seen in a long time. World of Wheels 1982 or 1983. My 1st restoration. My 1st higher end show. I've learned so much since. Must've been after that show I installed the ducted hood. It also looks like I had a white top & not parchment...Joe

Despite daytime temperatures being between 111 & 116 degrees, I still try to get things completed. The glass shop finally came & installed front & back glass. I installed the newly polished original stainless. Installed antenna mast & found a YOM license plate with "396" on it. Been doing lots of little things like cleaning grounds & making sure all the light work. First time I hooked up the battery cables, I jumped a little because I had the door open & the key in the ignition. Set off the key buzzar. Hasn't worked in all the years I've owned it...Joe

I went with the one from SMS. They made mine from NOS materials. Better quality & fit than some of the other I saw. More money too...like double+....Joe

LOL yes they are pricey. This is the dark blue swatch SMS sent me for a standard interior. Is it perforated like this on yours? I thought the original fabric was more like a fluted or corded texture.

Also, were your sun visors likewise done by them?

X66 714 06-23-2021 05:15 PM

Yes. That is the wrong one for sure. the correct material is Bedford. I'll send you a pm...Joe

How's your car coming along Joe? Did you get the door panels to fit?

Can't get the door panels to fit the way I like them. Fixing lots of little issues. Vertually anything that could leak did. Fixed all those. The meter valve I rebuilt for the brakes failed. It's at Mike's (the booster guy) to see what I did wrong. Had to take the console out which is a pain in a th400 car. Had to take the front bumper back off as it had a little flaw in the paint. Taking the wheels back for rebalance as they put stick on weights on the wheels. I only have about 100 days to get this dialed in. Seem like a lot but it's sneaking by real quick. Sorry to leave everybody hanging but I'm still working on it. Thank you, Joe

I haven't had much for pictures lately but the engine compartment is coming together. Not much room left after everything is in place. Sorting out a/c & heater hoses. Haven't been sitting around much. Just lots of small stuff that needs attention...Joe
