Thanks Rick I look daily for updates on this very special car!
|
Beautiful Rick.....I love Garnet Red when it is done correctly....Stunning!
As I have said, it`s the only RED! I see something that you will need to address.....Your door handles are not the originals....see how they are doing a wheelie.....if you look at any survivor untouched 1969 Chevelle the door handle sits flat....so many restored cars get this wrong on a 1969 Chevelle. Just helping :) I will send you a picture of an all original 1969 Chevelle. Dan |
Yes, thanx again Rick. I feel for you on the pictures. Maybe just create another file and post a link to that?? After time goes by the pics may fade away anyway so a permanent link may be better, not being tech savvy myself but others may have a better solution and easier on you.
Are you still in need of the dash pieces? I followed your advice on the dash chrome and I'm very happy with the results! |
Dan, those door handles are only for the photo shoot. My originals are being rechromed and were not done in time. 68 and 69 are the same and 70 through 72 are different.
|
Perfect :)

The car looks beautiful Rick.
Great job! |
Rick-Let me know if you need help reposting the pics!

Thanks to a member here who has gone WAY above and beyond, I now have the Astro Ventilation emblem coming too. Thanks Phil. You are one in a million! I received an email this morning from a gentleman offering me the dash spear and his was really nice so check two more off the list.

That's it for tonight people. I have been at the shop since 11:00 this morning updating the lost photos after plowing 11" of snow early this morning and with more on the way. I will try and get back here tomorrow to update more of these.

Thanks Rick, very much appreciate your efforts restoring the pics in the threat. The information in this thread is invaluable. . |
Another 5 1/2 hours today and I am only caught up to post #195 but I have a screaming headache so I am going home. Damn this sucks and better things to do with my time but just can't let it go to waste. There will be new photos added and some that are gone as I have no idea what was there before they got deleted. Hope you all can use what I reposted and makes our efforts worth while.

Rick,
Go home and rest up.....with all this snow, it probably reminds you of your early days of your youth back in Minnesota :) If you only still owned an auger, you could do some Ice Fishing :) Dan |
I should add that a couple of people had contacted me offering to send me copies of most or all the photos that I originally posted. While I appreciate the offer it would still have taken as much time so I just opted to start from scratch. This also allowed me to post some updated photos. Thanks to you both for offering to help.

Rick, Amazing job your doing. What a sexy car.
|
thanks for posting and reposting
It is a great thread Having had a few 68 and 69 Chevelles and El Caminos over the last 40 years, it is very interesting to see your restoration years ago another hard part to find was the 69 Chevelle grill I went to buy a new one from Chevy back in the 1980s and the parts guy said he can get it so I ordered it. When it came in, it was what I call the 300 Standard grill which is different then the Malibu grill. He said it was the only one he can get ( SS or non SS) The early reproduction was not very good, not sure about the repop that is sold today |

The body was set down on the frame late last week and is being striped this morning for the photo shoot that will take place late this afternoon. Here is our completed chassis we restored Muscle Car Restoration and Design.

Here the body is being mated to the body that Jamie and crew restored. I will update some more photos tomorrow with the car in stripes. From here it comes back to us for the entire interior restoration and install as well as the front clip assembly. Homeward bound but still hundreds of hours to go. These guys continue to work tirelessly and all hands on deck so that they were done in time for the photo shoot. This will be in the April issue of Muscle Car Review and will feature the bodywork and paint on this car.

Wow just amazing!

A little out of sequence but here is the shifter, reverse lock out and z-bar rebuild. These shifters are junk so a lot of time and effort goes into them to make them better than they were though they will never be as good as a Hurst. Steve Gregori (www.brakeboosters.com) handled all the plating for these component parts as well as the rest of the car.
Note the factory installed plug in the clutch z-bar. It was up to the mechanic at the 1st oil change to install the grease zirc fitting. This plug was still on our Chevelle so it was cleaned and reused. |

Mounted on the transmission. Note the factory engine overspray on the clutch fork. Another item to note, the shifter stabilizer rod and bracket were originally natural steel and that is how there were restored.

Ok, now my blood is flowing fast again. We are getting ever closer. Tons of work yet to do like etching the glass with the PPG logo and information, interior and many of the misc NOS parts/trim I still need to locate. Home run for Jamie and crew.

That's the money shot! Beautiful!

This thread started about 45 days ago, my gosh you guys move fast! How many hours are invested so far?
|
I am awed by this restoration. Fantastic work!
|
I only started posting 45 days ago but actually started tearing the car down and restoring misc pieces back in in November shortly after bringing the car home. I did not want to make a post and then go a month with very little additions so I waited until I had many photos and work completed before I started posting to keep the interest alive. Jamie has only been working on the body since early August but with 5-6 people on it at any given time. They have made massive progress in a very short amount of time due to the magazine deadline. I have not added their TTD hours up yet but approximately 1100 on body and paint and another 650 give or take on our end doing chassis, drivetrain and all the misc restored parts. Annie and I usually put in at least 20 hours most weekends. What are nights and weekends for?
Anybody that says they can restore a car for $60k is using spray cans and a catalog! I have more invested in this car at this point than 90% of my customers do with a finished car. Mainly due to the high cost of NOS parts (not to mention wheels and tires) and the time to locate them. |

Thank you for that, most just don't understand. Mike |

Thank you for the explanation. Much respect for you and your team! Like many, I can’t wait to see the finished product. |
All I can say is WWWWOOOOOOWWW. Stunning Rick!!
|
Rick...you and Annie have taken us on a spectacular ride during this restoration. The workmanship is outstanding and seeing the product in person will make it that much more special.

Rick,
Now looking back.....it was a good thing that all your pictures were erased....as you now have made this thread even better....your pictures are way better the second time. You made a Bad Outcome into a Very Good One....well done! Dan |
