Graeme,

Great job on the car!! Started right up. Electric fuel pump or mechanical? Sounds really good and congratz on your fine work!

Stock type mechanical pump Dave. Had a couple little leaks off a pair of lines and a couple bowls that needed tweaking but other than that it was pretty much uneventful. Hit if off first bump as timing was nearly dead on and all was good from there.

When it warms up some I'll do some further tuning and really get it dialed in. Also waiting for a couple breathers I ordered and they should be here in a few more days. Shake down runs are only weeks away now.

ccarccrazy 03-16-2019 07:05 AM

Yes, You are correct Rich, The photo of the car with the Magnum wheels was the Metro Burn Unit Show in Parma on Chevrolet Blvd. I believe that was 2004.

NorCam 03-16-2019 01:35 PM

The car did get a new pair of shoes yesterday. It's now wearing a set of repro Magnum SS wheels with Firestone Wide Oval F70/15 Radials. These will be used whenever they are needed, but most of the time the car will dawn vintage bias ply rubber. New breathers were added yesterday and a few shakedown runs will be scheduled when things thaw out here in a couple weeks.

It is supposed to hit 45-55 degrees in another few days but we rolled the car out to fire it up in the low 30's. Damn near froze with a brisk north wind out there but it was fun all the same. Had a few small fuel leaks to deal with but it fired up first turn and was a breeze to dial in. Still need to set the timing and adjust the float bowls, but ran it for 5 minutes before driving it back into the shop for the night. Here's a little compilation I threw together this evening. Video of the car running is right at the end of the project pics.

More when it's dialed in and properly timed. Sounds pretty nasty even through the exhaust.

Good GOOD video Graeme! Nicely done! I have to admit i like the sound of your Nova better than that song!!!

NorCam 03-16-2019 08:05 PM

OK Sam. Here's a walk around clip. No pics, no talking and no music.

Just an 1800 rpm idle through the exhaust. :)

Mr70 03-16-2019 09:33 PM

I hear music.. :burnout:

mockingbird812 03-16-2019 11:30 PM

SAAAAHWEEEEET!!! Yep, that’s good stuff Graeme!! Thanks!!:biggthumpup::laugh::biggthumpup::laugh:

NorCam 03-17-2019 12:14 AM

Man that was awesome. Read Sam's reply and clicked on the video again to watch it (or better yet...hear it) and the next video that loaded after the car was this Corsair on a first start up. Watched the whole video and I flat out love these planes. My all time favorite WWII plane and the coolest engines powering them.

Watching “Battle of Britain” now re: thunderous piston engined WWII fighters!!!!!

Mr.Nickey Nova 03-17-2019 01:45 PM

I like the SS wheel's!! Look's and sounds great...

NorCam 05-16-2019 01:22 AM

Finally got the Nova out for a full exhaust system today. I thought that running rear pipes beyond the diff would quieten this thing up a bit...but nope. It sounds pretty rank and shakes like a bad ass when stopped at the street lights. It's now ready for a few break in runs which are upcoming. Here's a short clip of it idling away with full exhaust out to the back and exiting just behind the wheels. Full 2.5" pipes with balance tube and Turbo Mufflers which create just the right back pressure for the Mickey Thompson Scavengers.

Turn it up!

Crush 05-16-2019 03:13 AM

I think the idle is right at 1200 Dave

I had this Green line tach calibrated and had the sender converted to digital but it's off by about 400+ rpm. It's also been sticking around 4K from time to time so not money well spent. I do have a Autometer with shift light that I'll likely install because I need something accurate that works. :cool2:

scuncio 05-17-2019 02:04 AM

Sounds like it looks! Nice.

Is there a way to restore the pictures in this thread?

NorCam 04-19-2022 04:58 PM

Sorry Freddie. This a 3 year old thread that I hadn't seen for some time.

I must of moved some images in the folders hosted by by IMG bucket. I am in the midst of moving right now and do not have time to go through all these pages to restore the corrupt image links images.

I'll try to fix them when I get settled into my new place in a few weeks time.

big gear head 04-19-2022 07:28 PM

A friend of mine says he owned this car. I wanted to see if it's the same car. If it's not then they look VERY much alike.

1 = Gary Gurkovich was the original owner in Cleveland for about 22 years
2 = Gary Cunningham then owned it for another 24 in Ohio
3 = Mel Luizza got his hands on it for about 2 years in New York
4 = I bought it from Mel and owned for a couple years, built the new drive line and fixed it up.
5 = I sold it to a private collector in 2019 and the car now resides back in the USA

There is another guy who tried to buy it from Mel (prior to me) but never closed on the payment and never took possession. That guy is from somewhere down by you I think?

big gear head 04-20-2022 09:38 AM

Gary Cunningham is the one that I thought I know, but I guess it's another Gary. The Gary Cunningham that I know lives in Madisonville KY. He has owned and built many cars. Funny how so many people have the same name. So it is the same car that I saw on Facebook yesterday.

Is it for sale? Always liked that car!

NorCam 04-20-2022 11:54 AM

Pictures of that car have continually circled on many of the Facebook pages and have done so for a while now. It was a great car, and likely one that I should have kept.

I don't think it will come back for sale in my lifetime. Owner really digs it.
