I will throw this out there for next year if its does end up being at BB. If help is needed I will offer it since I am fairly close to BG & plus I lived up there for 14 years. I also have dealt with Dallas before through other events as well.. I havent been to a SCR since the first in Hendersonville in '98.

Thanks Eric....the mph tells us its a 10 second car ...but the 60' time has to get better.....thanks to Dave McGaffee for all his hard work on this car ...he makes it all possible...we will be looking into a different intake, water pump, electric fan, and some rear suspension work. My last pass at KilKare on a TT night (Thursday) we went a 11.34 and were warned by the track about not having a roll bar. Ed Hedrick said back in the day ...Grumpy always wanted the cars to leave at 140 degrees ....hence cooler motor makes better passes

I want to thank Doug, Tom, and Jamie along with the whole group for the honors. I sincerely appreciate it. Very nice event. Beench Bend is a spectacular track. It exudes nostalgia. Being in the Corvette museum with the cars was pretty cool too. But as always, it's the people who make it what it is. I got to set and visit with Ed Hedrick for quite a while. What a great guy he is. I wish I knew a fraction of what he does about motors and racing. Thanks to Benny for getting him out here.

I hope everyone made it home safe, and thanks again.

This was my first Super Car Reunion, but I must say it will not be my last! Got to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of nice cars, and hear a bunch of interesting stories! Not to mention the guest speaker at the banquet! I could listen to those stories for days! I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as myself. I'm already looking forward to next year!

Mine picked up power across the board with the water/oil at ~110°/140° vs. 160°/170°.

With the MPH that thing's pulling, I wouldn't be making any major engine component changes at this point--maybe some carb/ignition testing to try to bring down that 60'. You should be able to get that down into the 1.40's which by itself will take the car well down into the 10's.

Is the car still spinning the tires?

I was wondering if they said anything to you about that 11.34 @ Kil-Kare--I have a friend who's been 11.20's in his car with no bar and so far they haven't said anything to him.

When you go through tech, do they check your car for the SFI stuff--balancer, bellhousing, loop, etc.? When I went the tech guy told me I didn't even need to open the hood--"that car's too clean" were his exact words lol. I went ahead and opened it for him anyways, all he checked was the battery hold-down and the puke tank. (If you haven't seen it yet, there's a track report in the Chevelle build thread).

Anything I can do to help, anything you need from me, just ask.

Re: SCR18

With multiple testing sessions...we found the car loves air pressure....so we have gradually increased it to 19-20 pounds depending on the track As well as the launch ...between 4800-5,600 depending on the track as well. Usually a lady techs my car in at KilKare ...she checks my helmet and looks under the hood. I do have all the safety items..loop, bell housing etc...just not a roll bar. I won't put it in the Copo I will talk to Dave about coil, ignition and carb.....that is the only thing holding the car back ...is the 60' best ever was 1.597 Driving a stick has its challenges and rewards in every pass

VintageMusclecar 08-24-2015 03:21 PM

Re: SCR18

I'm in the same boat--don't want to put a bar/cage in my Chevelle, that's one of the reasons I sold my old Pro Street `67, I hated climbing around that stupid cage. No way in hell I'd cage a COPO car either.

Driving a stick car is a lot of fun---but my old ass needs a LOT of practice to get my mojo back---probably looks more like I'm trying to do the Curly Shuffle when I'm driving mine.

Eric ...I know you remember when I was running lower tire pressure at KilKare driving the stick ....I was getting busy with the steering wheel and you could see it from the stands. Fun but edgy If you can you should bring your car to next years SCR19 ...my guess it's 4 hours from you

I would like to give a big thanks to the crew that made this new venue happen. Great Job! The track was timeless. Going through the museum was a neat to see the sinkhole cars. Wow!
Also I would like to thank Scott, Kenny and Adam for letting me pilot the yellow deuce for a few passes. I surprised myself with a leadoff 10.81 with a .005 light. Not bad for my first time in the car. I had a ball! That car rocks.
Can't wait for next year.

Re: SCR18

Wow..love the pic.

Friday was one of those days I will never forget, as during the morning session I ran a personal best, 10.09 @129, and right before loading and heading to the museum I got to race the legendary Ed Hedrick. Was able to get him out of the hole with a .037 to a .051, but he was able to drive around me on the big end, my 10.24 to his 9.87.

To be able to experience this, and hang with Rob, Drew and a bunch of friends just made the day even better. Cannot wait to do it again.

Re: SCR18

ALL these cars are running great! Top shelf stuff.
Honestly the CARTEL's car impresses me the most. Pretty much set up like the old days when we would run these cars at the track and then drive them to school or work back in the day.
Headers, T-bars, some safety equipment, a little suspension work with some carb and distributor modifications and maybe??? some head and valve spring work.
Slap the header mufflers on and DRIVE it to the track. Monday, drive it to work for the week.
Would see a car like his sitting at Burger King on a Friday nite, running in the 11's on Saturday nite on 9" tires and back to his work place on Monday morning. Golden!!!

:>))

Re: SCR18

Friday was like a trip back in time. 60s & 70s musclecars, everything from purpose built race cars to "day 2" to stock, all trying to make their next pass their best.

Was kind of funny to have a couple of newbies tell that they thought the racing portion of the SCR would just be a few guys making easy passes in their cars, then when the track went hot, like "holy ----", these guys really do race these cars.

Tom, I know you've been to Beech Bend before but now EVERYONE knows why we love the place. With little or no effort, it's easy to convince yourself you're back in the 60s/70s, ....... and with the cars that the SCR attracts, ...... WOW ! ! ! WHAT AN EVENT ! ! !

Sammy that was the exact idea when we started setting up the car with the look of Day 2 and that was the focus of what we want to achieve ...now when we finally get that 60 foot time down we definitely will be at the 10's. That's always been my goal to build a 10 second hot rod ....thank God and kudos for Dave McGaffee

You nailed the Holy s@#* reaction of people. I spent a lot of time with Kevin Gass from Holley on Friday. He is no stranger to a drag strip. He was a great help in getting my Deuce in the 12s. And that was his exact response. He said he was expecting some really nice rare cars making parade passes and taking photos. But was blown away by how we were running them the way they were meant to be run.
Jamie
