This 65 Malibu SS was advertised as an original L79 car that was sold new in Amarillo TX. I was a nice restoration, but I don't believe red lines were available in '65. It sold for $41.5K.

"STP" (Super Track Pack) is a performance axle behind a performance engine for '69-'71 Mopars and describes a 4.10 Dana 60 axle behind a 4 speed. "TP" (Track Pack) is a 3.54 Dana 60 behind a 4 speed.

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I went to the Auctions America auction in Auburn IN on Labor Day Weekend with my dad. Her are a few photos from there.
This 66 Corvette convertible was sold new at Mount Motor Sales in Carlyle IL with an M21 and 3.70 gears. It won Bloomington Gold and was an NCRS Top Flight car. It sold for $143K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn1198.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn1173.jpg This 62 Bel Air was a radio delete car with a date code correct QB block. There was no mention of if being a documented original 409/409 car so all I know for sure is that it was an original V8 Bel Air sport coupe. It was bid to $78K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1219.jpg This 66 Chevy II SS had 65K miles and was unrestored with an older repaint. It was advertised as having the original engine and rearend and was certified as an original L79 car by Jerry M. It was bid to $70K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1196.jpg This 66 Chevy II SS had 17K miles. It was advertised as having it's original engine and POP and was certified as an original L79 car by Jerry M. It sold for $82.5K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1199.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1183.jpg This 66 Chevy II SS was a freshly restored car with very few miles on it since it was restored. It was advertised as having it's original sheet metal and engine and was certified as an original L79 car by Jerry M. It was bid to $100K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn1189.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn1188.jpg This 69 Chevelle SS was advertised as a recent barn find that had just undergone a complete frame off restoration. According to the build sheet it was shipped to Roller Chevrolet in Monterey CA. The consignor said it had it's original engine and M21 transmission. He was going on and on about how correct the car was, but that black thermostat housing really stood out. It was also certified by Jerry M. as an original Monaco Orange L78 car. It was bid to $72.5K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn1207.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn1210.jpg This 70 Superbird was an unrestored car with 1 repaint and was owned by it's original owner until earlier this year. It did have a replacement block that was backed by it's original TorqueFlite. It was bid to $100K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn1211.jpg This 70 Hemi Challenger R/T was a 4 speed car with a STP 4.10 rear that was sold new at Al-Jo Dodge in Emmaus PA. It was documented with a build sheet and was certified by G.G. According to the fender tag the Shaker hood isn't original to the car. Speaking of the fender tag, any ideas as to what happened to it? This car was bid to $150K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn1178.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1218.jpg This 29 Duesenberg Model J Convertible was the number one seller at $1.4M. This is chassis # 2168 and engine # J-147 and began life with a LeBaron Phaeton Sweep Panel body and was purchased new by H. Leslie Atlass whose family owned the Mallory Battery Company in Lincoln IL. In 1930 P.K. Wrigley convinced Atlass to swap bodies with his Murphy Convertible Coupe which is body # 821. It's powered by a 420 ci straight eight producing 265 horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1179.jpg This 37 Delahaye 135 Cabriolet was the number two bid car at $575K. It's powered by a triple carburetor six cylinder with a 4 speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1181.jpg |

The Essenhaus in Middlebury IN had their final cruise in of the year this past Thursday and there were over 1,300 cars in attendance. Here are a couple of cars I took photos of.
I've posted photos of this 64 GTO before. It's Alamo Beige with a Saddle interior and is an original tri-power car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1223.jpg This 70 Superbird is a V code Six Pack car with a TorqueFlite that was purchased new by the owners father at D.L. Miller in Mishawaka IN. It was in storage for 30 years and has just over 30K miles on it. It is an original drivetrain car that was recently restored. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn1230.jpg This 68 Chevelle SS is an original Tripoli Turquoise car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn1224.jpg Bryant Goldstone's 2015 Drag Week runner up 73 Javelin was on hand. He averaged a 6.95 @ 208 for the week with a best pass of 6.78 @ 210 at Indianapolis Raceway Park on the second day. He made a six second pass on 4 of the 5 days. This car always attracts a crowd. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn1236.jpg I'm not a big fan of exotics, but this brand new Lamborghini Huracan was also attracting quite a crowd. It has a V10 producing 610 horse power that is backed by a 7 speed transmission. I believe it is AWD as well. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn1233.jpg |

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
The outdoor show season has finally arrived here in the Midwest. Yesterday I went to the Auctions America Auction in Auburn which featured an AACA car show. There wasn't much in the auction, but there were some neat cars in the AACA show. Here are some that I photographed.
Here is D. Yoder's latest restoration. This 67 Chevelle SS L78 has it's original drivetrain and is Nantucket Blue with a bright blue bench seat interior. It was sold new at R.D. Banks Chevrolet in Warren OH. The is the third 67 L78 Chevelle that he has restored. The other two were featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines. The Butternut Yellow one was just featured recently and his Granada Gold one was featured several years ago. In my opinion this was the best musclecar at the show. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn2502.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn2488.jpg This 57 Bel Air convertible was Sierra Gold and was a 283 horse fuelie with a 3 speed and 4.11 rear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2482.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn2484.jpg Nice Bolero Red 67 Impala SS convertible with a 427 and TH400 that were original to the car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2492.jpg This 70 442 W-30 convertible was an automatic car with A/C. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2504.jpg C. Moore's 66 Hemi Charger with a 4 speed and 3.54 rear was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines several years ago. I appreciate the pre-war iron as well. A question: That Nantucket Blue 67 L78 Chevelle (top of this page), is it not supposed to have an idler pulley on the RH side (only on L78 cars)?
As an aside, I maintained a collection that had 2 Auburn 1929 8-90 roadsters, so I am very familiar with these cars and thier Lycoming 8's with their big brass carburetors. |
Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I know the 66 Chevelles with the L78 had an idler pulley on the RH side, but I don't believe the 67's did. I don't know of any unrestored 67 L78 Chevelles, but I just looked at photos I have of 4 other documented 67 L78 Chevelles that are restored and non of them have idler pulleys either.

I believe your answer and thanks. I'll have to trust your knowledge. I have never seen a real documented 67L78, IIR. |
Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I believe mrays is correct that the 66 L-78 chevelles had the idler but not the 67 L-78 cars.

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I was at Mecum in Indy last Friday and Saturday and will post some photos from there when I have a chance. On Sunday I went up to the Super Chevy Show at Martin MI. There weren't very many cars there on Sunday. Here are a few I took photos of.
S. McGhee's 68 Z/28 is a recently completed car that was my favorite one at the show. This is an original drivetrain car that was purchased new at Don Leitow Chevrolet in Bridgman MI. It was ordered with an M21 and 4.10 gears, but no console or gauge package. It was documented with a POP and dealer paperwork. The original owner was in Vietnam when the car arrived at the dealer, so his mother took pictures of the car and the engine compartment and sent them to him. Copies of those pictures were on display with the car. It was raced by the second owner, but he kept everything he took off of the car and those parts were used in the restoration. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2894.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2856.jpg D. Williams' 65 Malibu SS was my favorite drag car at the event. This car is packing 500+ci and puts out over 1,300 horsepower. Running through the mufflers with a stock rear suspension and 9" slicks it has gone 8.10's @ 160+. This was the first time he had it out this year and with a restrictor plate to tame it down and gain consistency it was running 8.50's. This was one sweet sounding car that provided some nice wheels up launches. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2860.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn2875.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2876.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2877.jpg This nice little 67 Chevy II sedan came all the was from Cleveland. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn2890.jpg G. Borgman's 72 Nova was another great looking drag car. It was packing over 500ci and ran 8.30's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn2874.jpg |
Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I went up to the FAST and Factory Stock race at Martin MI last Saturday. A lot of the cars in the Factory Stock class are also at the Pure Stock Drags in Stanton in September. However, here the 11.50 rule for cars without a roll bar was not in affect so a few of the faster cars like the L88 Corvettes, Hemis and the Simpson's ZL-1 powered COPO were running low ll's.
Here is T. Taccone's 70 Z/28 from NY. This is an original Cortez Silver Z/28 with an automatic transmission. He was running in the 13.20's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn2941.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2940.jpg Here is B. Mayer's 66 GTO. This is an original tri-power car with a 4 speed and was running 13.70's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn2919.jpg This is M. DiMonte's 72 T/A from Ontario. This is a 4 speed car and it was running 12.70's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2915.jpg This is J. Keyes' original owner 67 Coronet R/T. This is a factory Hemi car with a TorqueFlite and was running 11.70's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn2910.jpg This 68 Charger R/T is a factory Hemi car with a 4 speed and it was running 13.80's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2926.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn2944.jpg R. Mahoney brought his 68 Super Bee from PA. This is a factory Hemi car with a TorqueFlite and it was running 11.00's and 11.10's. I talked to him for a little bit. He will be unveiling a 68 RA Firebird convertible and the 8th 69 Trans Am convertible at MCACN this year. The 68 was just completed and the 69 is being restored by S. Tiemann as we speak. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2924.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2931.jpg This is J. Bowman's A12 Super Bee with a 4 speed. Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Dan and Ryan,
I was there all day Saturday walking through the pits and watching the racing. I talked to a bunch of people. Were you guys just there spectating or were you there with a car? I was at Mecum Indy all day Friday and Saturday, but by the time I found Mike's GS's they had already gone through the auction and I never saw anyone around them. I saw Charlie a couple of times but he was busy talking with others when I saw him and I didn't want to bother him. I'll be at MCACN on Saturday and Sunday so I'll have to try to find you guys there. Will either of you have a car there? |
Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
those cars are so cool with the original look and tire scorching speed.

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Great pics as usual. It's amazing to see the ETs vary so much between what you would think would be similarly quick cars. I guess it goes to the driver and to the tuning of the vehicle. Thanks for posting them.
