Bruce; First of all, thanks for all of the great pictures this week. Not only were all us regulars on here who were stuck at home enjoying them, I noticed folks from other web sites were also tuning in. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Second of all, and most important, thanks for reminding us what really is important. FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Cool pictures of Holly and the other celebrities. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif B/J takes a lot of heat over the amount of money they take in, but I think we all need to remember that each year they help raise a lot of money for charity. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Re: Barrett Jackson Saturday Pics...You've got to see
I was able to tag along with Bruce and his wife Lynn and daughter Holly when they met Carroll Shelby. My knees were weak as The Man came down off the back of the stage to meet Holly. I stood back to get a few photos.
Bruce introduces Mr. Shelby to Lynn: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...J/Shelby1A.jpg Mr. Shelby meets Holly. He placed his hand on Holly's shoulder as though they were war buddies and he asked Holly, "Which one?" meaning which organ had she had transplanted. Holly replied, "My heart" and Mr. Shelby replied "Me too." Someone mentioned the term "tear jerker" and I have to admit that's exactly what it was. When Mr. Shelby put his hand on Holly's shoulder and said "Which one?" in his wonderful Texas drawl, I could feel my knees get weak. It was all over in about two minutes but it was a great moment. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...J/Shelby2A.jpg Whatever "issues" may or may not exist with this car, it was the absolute highlight of the event for me. I first read about this car 30 years ago in a used copy of the Feb. 1968 Road & Track and thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen--Shelby's personal twin-turbo 427 driver. My heart skipped a beat when we walked in on Friday and I saw the car. Bruce can tell you that I excitedly blabbed on and on about the car for about five minutes. Five million may be ridiculous to some but seeing Mr. Shelby's smile when the car hammered on Saturday was priceless. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...perSnake2A.jpg |
Re: Barrett Jackson Saturday Pics...You've got to see
My take on the Barrett-Jackson experience, my first.
Got to meet Ken Tibor (Kwhizz) and his wife, Bart (47hammer), Mark (latebrakeU2), Mark Hassett, Denis Gilbert, budnate, Mr.T, Andy (selling his double COPO), Colin (living the dream for sure!), Chuck Sharin, enio45, Sam (mockingbird812), and others who I'm sorry are slipping my mind at the moment. If for no other reason, you must attend something like Barrett-Jackson (or SCR) just to meet some of the terrific people on the Y-net. It was just like hanging out with all of your high school car buddies! On Saturday night after the "show" Bruce, Bart (47hammer), Mark (latebreakU2), and I went over to the Macaroni Grill for a late dinner and we carried on for over an hour about all kinds of motorcycle and car talk. Mark was looking very tired so we decided to call it a night but I bet we could have shut that place down at 2 a.m. if we'd had the energy to stay. Thanks to Denis and his wife for hosting the brunch at their house on Sunday morning. The chili and cornbread were just right. We had to hustle out of there to make the meeting with Carroll Shelby by noon but I could have hung-out in Denis' garage and looked at his cars and BS's all day long--it would have been easy. I could mention many, many other aspects of my two days at B-J with Bruce but suffice to say it was worth every minute, every penny just to meet all the guys and gals. Thank you again Bruce for being such a fine host and to Lynn and Holly for opening your home to me--you definitely know how to make someone feel right at home. I'll post a few of my photos soon and I'll try not to overlap with Bruce's coverage. Bill Eaton |
