Is this the original Gibb/Harrell car that he had in the 60's? Thanks! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif [/ QUOTE ] Can't be. This car is a '70-72. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/142594-kcir-3.JPG |
Re: Nostalgia event at KCIR
This is not Harry's Nova from days gone by, but simply a racecar he bought to play with. He wanted something he could race hard, so rather then change his original Camaro to meet today's tech, he decided to go this route. According to Harry, both cars are due to be painted/lettered within the next couple of weeks.

[ QUOTE ] Never did open the hood. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif [/ QUOTE ] Thats a bit odd isn't it? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif Did he start the car or just roll it around? I was dying for some underhood shots. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif One of my favorite old race cars that was featured in countless articles and advertisements from the era. Tom, did you ask him about coming to SCR8? |

Re: Nostalgia event at KCIR
I think Harry's org.car was T L walker's car which I think was not a Gibb Nova but a small block SS bought at Allen Chevy. I think it was a yellow car 327 or 350 car?? It was converted to a BB and painted Dick Harrell colors. I think the car everbody is thinking about was John Walker's car which was car # 22 and Vin# 370191. I may have some of this wrong. Going by bits & pieces. Kim https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Joe, I also wanted under the hood to see the trim tag. I did get the Vin# 197055 They claim it is the first built 396-375 car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: Nostalgia event at KCIR
It is a really neat car, and worth a trip to go see it, but at this point, simply a show car. The owner considers it a "museum piece", thus will not consider running it, in fact, I am not for sure if he ever fires it.
During the time the Kimball brother's (Larry and Gary) raced it, sometime around 1970, one year this car won more $$ then any other drag car, including top fuel and FCs. Larry has a ton of pics of the car, many from tracks around this area. The car was sold in '71, after Gary was killed in a racing accident. He was standing near the starting line visiting when a car went out of control and hit him. I believe at the old Ozark Racetrack near Springfeild, MO. In the early '90s, Larry decided to track the car down, buy it and have it restored. The guy who did much of the work on the car is who I bought my Nova from. That is how I first found out about the car. |
Re: Nostalgia event at KCIR
Thats a shame https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif... its a neat looking car but its sacreligous to not even fire it up! What made "Grumpy's Toy" so special wasn't just how cool it looked, but rather how it ran... he's missing half of what makes the car special IMO.
Maybe he was just worried that Little Hoss woulda cleaned his clock... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
