Re: News from the Auction front.
Norm, Reggie is NOT too happy!! When there is a commercial break the English Announcer starts yawning and seems bored... Before the auction went on the air there was '69 Hugger Orange Z-28 Camaro that went for $40,000 and a '69 Chevelle SS (Blue with 325 HP) that went for $50,000. Mark

Re: News from the Auction front.
What's the deal on Reggies 57 black Chev. Got fuel injection and some neat stuff, but has no paperwork????
They seem to keep saying, "since it's Reggies, it will bring more money!". Give me a break, big deal! Peter |
Re: News from the Auction front.
Yes, Speedvision need to get rid of the Larry, Curly & Moe anouncers. Please send Brock Yates back to Car & Driver or Road & Track or whatever limp wristed mag he came from.

Re: News from the Auction front.
The Speed Channel announcers don't know their butts from their elbows. There is some great American racing history represented by those cars and they don't have a clue.
That 57 Chevy was a factory hot rod that some people call The Black Widow. Chevy even sold a book (1957) printed by the Chevrolet Central Office that showed you how to build your own Stock Car for racing. I have the book. I have read that Smokey Yunick help write it. They tell you how to order the base car with FI 283. The Speed Channel announcers should do a little research. Just doing a 2 minute search on the net you can find a lot of info. Found this on the FI 57 Dubbed the black widow, this light weight coupe took Buck Backer to the 1957 NASCAR championship. Just 3 races into the season, NASCAR banned the use of fuel injected, factory backed cars, claiming they had an unfair advantage over the independent racers. Baker switched over to a singe 4 barrel carb on his 283 cu. in. small block. He went on to win 17 races, easily clinching the championship. I can see why Reggie wasn't happy. That car would have gone higher if people knew the history of it. IMO |
Re: News from the Auction front.
No matter how many times they say essentially "if it's in the Reggie collection, it MUST be real", the smart buyers don't fall for it. If that '57 was a "real" Black Widow it would have been at least double, IMO, of course. Maybe the stuff he's shedding from his collection is finally getting the premium it deserves, a negative one.
As far as the dolts announcing. Mute! Wonder what they'll say when the Yenko Chevelle goes through for $125,000 PLUS tonight. |
Re: News from the Auction front.
Hey did the Chevelle go through ? Not bad money for a 62 409 Impala.. Although I wasn't there to see it I thought the 66 Impala 427-425 horse car went pretty cheap. They kept saying it was really a nothing car except for the big motor.

Reggies car was not a black widow but just a regular F.I. 283-if it was even originally F.I. Reggies car is a 210 model, the black widows came as 150 series "stripper" business coupes (kind with small side "spear" trim and no back seat. Most of the BW I have seen where white and black two tone. Also the BW had the 6 lug special race wheels with no hub caps. Reggies just had the regular 5 lug with small 210 series dish hubcaps. Re: News from the Auction front.
I liked that 67 Fairlane 'R' code 427 with 225 original miles. I thought it would have gone for more than $70K though. I was at a hockey game and it was in between periods so I went into the little brew pub they have in the arena and had them turn on the auction. Other people watching had no clue what these cars are worth and they were all stunned at the prices the cars were selling for. I'll be watching tonight.

Re: News from the Auction front.
Did any body see when an announcer tried to interview Reggie he kept walking away
He looked tired and disgusted Then you see Alice Copper jumping up and down and happy to be there Reggies cars last night were nice cars but not original all modified but nice Joe is right about the black widow as bein a 150 series some where I have a write up on it As for the English announcer and Brock Yates give me a break a 66 big block impala not worth much and a 409 is nothing more that a truck motor and that a car With a 283 is worth more ??
