Great car, great thread. I grew up on the southside of Indy and lived about a mile from Nankivell. Dad was a car enthusiast so we were there a lot for parts and to look at new cars. We both recall the orange 69 ZL1 they had but I don't remember or never saw this one.
In 1975 Dad bought a new Cosworth Vega from them that is still in the family with my brother Ted, so this is really cool to see all the memorabilia and pics. Nankivell badge on rear, pic from '78.

When I was looking at my fist car in '75, I was 15, one of the salesmen there, Rick Newkirk, had a green 70 Yenko Deuce for sale. Personally I think, not from the dealership. We went to his house in Greenwood to look at it but $1200 was way more than my paper route could support, and Dad was not wavering on our deal. So we passed on the Yenko and I got a 67 Camaro for $250. Probably why I'm still alive today.... ;)

Here is a pic of the dealer badge. Ted just went out and checked the Vega and the badge had come off over the years but was still in it.

I believe that Nankivell's Shelbyville location was run by Jim's brother Morgan, and may have been an Oldsmobile dealer early on, but eventually sold Chevrolet's as evidenced by the neon on the ceiling....

If you don’t mind a little additional input, it was still Nankivell into at least 76 as we were still dealing with them. In fact I can check my late 70’s yearbooks and old parts receipts to see when Hubler showed up. :)

The building at 3800 is still there and is still a used car dealership owned by Hubler. In is not in Greenwood. Hubler moved down 31 decades ago to that location you are thinking about, but the original Nankivell to Hubler building is at 31 and National, just inside the outer loop at 6 o’clock. This is where Doug’s car would have come from.

Wow, 31 decades? They had car dealers that long ago? :)
