Some stained 1x6, a little distressing of the wood, a jute rope inlay, done. The hardest part was hauling that monster up and down the ladder by myself.

A little more work needed to be done outside. We decided the current foliage looked a little disorderly and the space needed to be cleaned up. Those plants can get about 25ft high and I didn't want to be trimming something so tall in my twilight years.

The answer was a little more hardscape and less greenery. Still have some additional work to do on the deck and pergola, but it's essentially finished. Also need to remove the large stump left over after chopping down the old foliage. We're hoping the colorful hibiscus blooms make the space pop.

After the sticker shock of pricing three large and colorful ceramic pots, we decided to take another route and have some fun making these planter boxes for the hibiscus. The palm tree ornaments are some trivets I got from eBay for practically nothing.
