Just wait Marlin...
You'll blink once and he'll be 16! |
Re: The newest drag racer gears up!
Still chasing.... We got the carb back from the race shop, all blueprinted and set up - still no rpm out of the engine. I feel like I did at 17 - no clue what to do with this engine. At least I don't have to stay up all night fixing it to drive to work in the am! Looking forward to running closer to 12.90's soon. Benjamin wants to race this weekend

Re: The newest drag racer gears up!
Still working on this car, not sure what is causing our drastically slow ET's - just checking everything right now, its like a completely new learning curve - anyone ever wonder how to check the timing on your lawn mower engine? Me either! Several nights spent working on it into the early morning hours - unfortunately, no measurable gain yet.
Couldn't hit the Nova Nationals due to work schedule, so we went to the Grove. We had 2 time shots Saturday, running a 17.66 and a 17.45, dialed a 17.55 and Benjamin ran a 17.67'ish - told me he lifted a bit! Oh well, he was trying to drive the stripe, she caught him at the end running a 7.94 on a 7.90. Good race. We are working on any possible idea right now, hope to hit TnT this Friday night at the Grove. Nothing better than seeing a huge smile on your son's face as he's taking off his racing jacket at the end of the race - time slip in hand, just thrilled to be racing. Re: The newest drag racer gears up!
Made 6 runs last night at TnT, still slow but pretty consistent. We now think the gearing is too low, so we need to do the equivalent of a rear gear swap to let the little 12.90 engine wind up a bit. The current gearing is for an 8.90 engine that has a lot more bottom end.
Learning as we go! The upside is that I'm using a bunch of the parts that came with the car, and we've met a lot of really nice folks, We'll be back at in a few weeks. |

Thanks for sharing your exploits with us...you're a cool dad Marlin! |
