With 400 hp at 5200 rpm and 480 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm, the 430 CID beast is easily among the most powerful engines offered by the Motor City in the ’50s. |

Rivian will delay production of its 400-mile long-range electric trucks until 2023 to focus on the 314-mile standard-range versions. |

For those not in Michigan - the Secretary of State allows the use of "same year/vintage" plates on historic vehicles. Cost is a one time fee of $35 and the plate is assigned to the vehicle for life. The normal "historic" plate has an antique carriage on it and is therefore not that appropriate for a muscle machine, at least in my mind. Allowing the use of a same year/vintage plate is a wonderful and uncharacteristically liberal policy and I am grateful; I have a same year plate on each of my collector cars. I mention it here because only "normal" plates are allowed; specialty plates like dealer plates - or manufacturer plates - are not allowed. Unless one happens to slip them under the radar... ;) |
same year tag
Ky. allows you to have a same year as car plate if your car is registered as an antique (25 years old or older). You must keep your antique plates in the car but they don't have to be displayed. Ky. tags are county specific so guys find an old plate with their county name on it.

My college roommate worked for New Departure Hyatt in Sandusky and had access to GM company owned vehicles. He was driving a company car one time with an Ohio manufacturer plate, which was stamped "Special" in the location where the county information normally appears. A woman stopped him while he was putting gas in it, and she said: "...ya know, I've lived in Ohio my whole life but I'll be dipped if I know where 'Special County' is...." K |

MN USED to be good about vintage plates, but they make more money with all their specialty plates and keep taking back the vintage sequences to use on the specialty plates. Plates are based on value in MN and it's not unusual for the specialty plate for a $60k car/truck to run $600/yr.

Lee, how about more pictures of the 1974 Z28 Type LT?

The thing I like about the '74 M plate is that the date is stamped in. You may recall the regular '74 plate was a '73 plate with an adhesive tab added. I found out about all this same year information when I tried to register this plate (below) to the GTO and it got rejected. That is Dick Jesse's dealer plate from Royal Pontiac. This mocked up photo might be the only time it has been installed, as it was still in the paper wrapper when I got it from Dad. K |

I thought this was funny. Maybe because I was thinking of Sam Elliott. K |

Soon after GM formally revealed the Chevrolet Silverado EV at CES, it emerged that the $105,000 RST First Edition has already sold out. In fact, according to GM CEO Mary Barra, all of those vehicles were snapped up in just 12 minutes. Barra told Bloomberg that the work truck variant is expected to be available in spring 2023, and GM plans to start delivering the RST First Edition that fall. The regular RST starts at $39,900, though that won't arrive until summer 2024. It's not clear how many RST First Edition Silverados were available for pre-order, but the swift sell out isn't super surprising, given the popularity of the combustion engine Silverado. There's clearly a widespread appetite for electric pickups. Ford had to halt reservations of the F-150 Lightning due to overwhelming demand, and this week the automaker announced plans to double its production capacity to 150,000 vehicles per year. |
