This is my first time :-)

I have never done most of this stuff and I love it!!!

I feel confident that I can succeed! (I have had significant periods of time when my confidence was very low.... but with tremendous support on a daily/hourly basis I have progressed)

Excited to put the body back on the frame is a ludicrous understatement!!

Ryan W31

PS: I was able to re and re the driveshaft, trans, mount, Bell housing, fork, throw out bearing, and fork boot in a couple hours.... it took me a couple months the first time :-)

This car has not had stripes since 197-1-2-3. (Very early in life) Al ordered the car with out stripes but the dealer was not able to delete them so he picked black stripes on dark green paint. From 15 feet away you can’t see them 🙂

Less than 5 months to go :-)

Ryan1969Chevelle 06-21-2018 10:38 PM

I finished up the manual steering box and installed it.

I threw out that piece of shit can of BoeShield! 30 bucks for an impotent can of nothing :-(

Bought Crown rust prevention spray and did the brake and fuel lines and clips and popped them all in :-) looks great.

Put the parking brake cables back together.

Ordered parts:
American Auto Wire harnesses for the front lights, engine bay, + and - battery cables. Thanks Dan V, for the tips and for the specifics from El Malo

Ordered some Fusicks items, jack sleeve, jack hook rubber pad, screw kit for the headlight area, and rubber plugs for the trunk drops.

Started to restore my rag joint.... I bought a complete spare steering box and rag joint and it is in similar condition so for now I will see how the original turns out. (I looked at repop but they look different and cost 70 USD.... I need some options.....)

The resto shop painted the bottoms of the quarters and has put the body on the hoist so they can paint the small patches where the rotisserie was bolted to the body. They are ready for Saturday.

I tried to set it up that the chassis and body combo could go straight to the exhaust shop but the Saturday timing and my inability to predict when we could drop off made this a no go.... :-( I am still thinking..... Hmm...

Got an email from Lynn Stager that she will go through thier photo albums to double check if they have any “fossil photos” (wouldn’t that be a nice touch!!!)

Today was a roaring success!!! The chassis and body are one unit again with no issues. The original owners were with us to tighten the bolts. We all headed out for lunch together as the marriage was completed in less than 2 hours including transportation to and from the resto shop. Thanks B&G Mark Burns and Brodie Gibson, and Terry Reeves tilt load guy, Shane Peter photo guy, of course Lynn and Al Stager (original owners) and last but not least Amy Weaver (She convinced me to buy the car) Life is GOOD!!

Too cool Ryan and what a great day for everyone, car included!
Congrats how much you've progressed and looking forward to seeing more pics and details.
The whole blended thing looks great from here also love how subtle the black stripes are w/ the green!

First: it was so nice to see you guys recently!!! (More often is appropriate)

Second: I am so happy with all the work you described, the paint guy did a few nice job blending old and new paint, his area has no scratches and dents... maybe I should age it to match?

I told the Stager’s you say hi yesterday.

The picture of Al Stager is Priceless! This is What it`s ALL ABOUT!

Well done Ryan!

To make that picture correct, there should be a Torque Wrench in Al`s hangs....just say`n.

I started to torque them but decided to let everything settle for a day or two and then torque the body bolts while the weight is on the frame.

Way to go Ryan.

Right on Ryan
Your getting close to the finish line.

Ryan1969Chevelle 06-25-2018 10:02 PM

Thanks guys!!

I am heading to the igloo to start on the front clip. (It is untouched, we pulled it off in one piece and left it as is)

Now we're getting somewhere. Looks great, you should be very proud of yourself.

By hook or by crook I am progressing.

Front clip is disassembled and all the items I didn’t know I needed are in order.

I took my rad to the shop that rebuilt my engine but initial conversations were ouchy.... more to recore than an Aluminum replacement surprise.

Ryan W31

A12pilot 06-29-2018 10:58 PM

Bob at Glen Ray radiators does all mine. When numbers are important and you need to keep it stock, you gotta recore it! He throws in a nice HD 3 or 4 row, and if your car overheats with that in there, the Earth is probably getting ready to ram into the Sun!

He takes a few months, so that's usually the first part I send out to be redone as soon as I get going on any car restoration.

You're making awesome progress Ryan! See you soon!

Cheers
Dave

So my hunny helped my clean one inner fender tonight. There is a thick layer of Ziebart, and overspray, and 50 year old road filth.

Thanks hunny!!

Amy says “Oven cleaner... I am out”

My father in law and I used 2 cans of Walmart oven cleaner and it worked beautifully.

I got all the nooks and crannies done on the first one and most of the second inner fender done before the mosquitoes started to drag me in to the woods.

I love oven cleaner, this stuff is like resto in a can. :-)

I sprayed the hell out of the rad saddle, so it will be clean enough to media blast.

I started to chill on the couch and felt lazy, and felt impending doom..... so at 7:10 I headed off to the igloo and worked till 9:30. I go the bumpers almost totally stripped. All the parts that are going to media blast round two are now ready to media blast. (The rad saddle is too big, they will blast it)

I am ordering parts daily and friends are moving parts from state to state to help me save on shipping. Albert Galdi, Stephen Minore, Anthony Bonafide, and more.

Progress!

Ryan W31
