Ever wonder why the Shaker Hood Bubble on the 1970 'Cuda was only available in Rally Red?

Originally there were supposed to be all the colors that Plymouth was offering on the Sport Mirrors and Elastomeric Bumpers. Unfortunately due to some issue with the bubble's physical properties, the paint didn't stick to the bubble. Shortly after the sale, it starting peeling off.

Plymouth saw what was coming - a major headache as far as time and money to repair the paint issue. They wanted to cancel the painted Shaker Hood Bubbles altogether. Unfortunately for Plymouth, inhouse counsel said; "you showed the painted bubble (in Rally Red) in your advertising. You can cancel all other colors . . . except the Rally Red."

The first owner of this 1970 440 Magnum Challenger R/T Convertible with Auto and A/C was legendary comedian Bob Hope. Chrysler gave the car to Hope as a promotional vehicle and thanks for promoting Chrysler cars on TV.

KITT's existence is directly related to the General Lee. The Dukes of Hazzard went on air in the fall of 1979, and CBS soon started to make a ton of money selling their vast variety of General Lee merchandise. It didn't take long for NBC to want a huge piece of that pie too, so by 1981 they came up with the character of Michael Knight, a.k.a. Knight Rider.

Oh BTW - the designer and builder of KITT; Michael Scheffe was a former Mattel Toy designer who later designed and built the BACK TO THE FUTURE DeLorean.
