----Ronnie's last race car was a Comet Pro Mod. He brought it out to a nostalgia race in Ohio called "the Field of Dreams". Dale Smith was there with his Sox and Martin Hemi Cuda and asked Ronnie to come and get behind the wheel of his Hemi. There was supposed to be a grudge match between him and Bill Porterfield, but Bill had problems so even though there was a large difference in ET's (not in my direction) they came to me to fill in with Red Alert. Dales car was about a second or more faster than me, but they got me down to 3/4 of second. I probably would have gone off even just to say I raced a living legend so I was moderatly happy.
----I left with a decent light and Ronnie (used to going off even all the time) stood Dale's Hemi on the bumper and holed the pan on the way down. I'm not sure if he knew or not as he still tried to run me down, but I just barely edged him out! We were pitted next to each other and after the race I jokingly went over and gave him a Red Alert hat. As I was walking back to my pit I turned around and saw him throw it in a close by garbage can. He didn't like to loose!.....Bill S |
