Yes, Pontiac offered a 400 HO engine in the Firebird in 1968. No, it did not have a stripe like this one has. This is the stripe that came with the 326 HO (67) and 350 HO (68). The stripes for the 400 (all engines) would not have the "H. O." in them.

They are, also, very expensive to restore, when they pucker and pit...

A little more Mosquito trivia...One of today's operational Mosquitos is Canadian Registered as C-FHMJ and is owned by Executive Aircraft from Richmond, BC which is based at the Vancouver International Airport. Executive Aircraft is owned by the Jens family which were a logging company before they ventured into the aviation business.

Two brothers owned the company, Slim was on the helicopter side (whom I worked for) and Rudy was on the fixed wing side. Bob was another family member, a nephew I believe. Anyway, Bob is the owner of Mosquito C-FHMJ.

I used to get down to Vancouver occasionally when I was based in Whistler and there was always interesting vintage aircraft in the hanger. Other than the Mosquito, there was the disassembled Rockwell P51. I remember the refurbished Merlin V-1650 engine was on a stand next to the door to our component overhaul shop.

Sadly, Slim and Rudy have passed and Highland Helicopters closed it's door on Jan 1st this year after 50 years of service in western Canada. I think C-FHMJ is now hangered over in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Google C-FHMJ and check out a couple of the inflight videos.
