For those of you not familiar with this particular P38, red the attached link. Amazing story and TV documentary. It was brand spanking new when it landed on the ice cap if Greenland after running out of fuel along with several other aircraft and was recovered under 268 feet of ice many years later. Take the time to read.

Glacier Girl
When I used to go to Pigeon Forge TN to car shows I sometimes would go the back way across the Cumberland Gap area and stop in Middlesbrough Ky and check on this plane being restored.
I’m not into planes but thought this story was real neat and guys from my home state taking on the work. I here it’s no longer in Ky.. Richard |

N615794 auto with power steering. Original drive train.
Was visible from Hwy 51 N of Madison WI. Moved, not known to be restored. Pic is about 25 years old. |

It's great to see they got her back in flying condition. I read the book when it first came out. What a great story and effort by the guys who rescued her. Too bad they didn't have funds or time to rescue the other planes. |

My bad. It was in Endeavor, so probably on Hwy 39.
You can chase it but I'll bet Bob Trez has been sending him birthday cards for 30 years. |
