How about the dirt, mud and rocks that will make their way into between the webs and cause out of balance situations? Couldn't a thin rubber sidewall be there to make the tire look more traditional and keep this from happening? |
No more raised white letters or redlines. The tire manufacturers probably hate the thought that there won't be any way to showcase the brand name on the sidewall, which will no longer exist.

It's supposed to last at least 80,000 miles. No thin rubber sidewall cover will last anywheres near that long. Plus you want the tire to evacuate anything that gets caught in the webs quickly and easily. |
Keep in mind that the Michelin’s Unique Puncture-proof Tire System (UPTIS) is the first of it's kind. IMO, it's a form follows function with no real aesthetics.
Look at the evolution of the automobile tire. They were white! The part of the car that touched the ground and it was white? How stupid was that? https://i.postimg.cc/xdxFY5Hf/0.jpg |

Yes, they are ugly. But technology marches on.
I am sure pneumatic tires will be available for a long time. |

In 1964, Vince Piggins was manager of product performance for Chevrolet Engineering. That year, he proposed an idea to build a mid-size performance street car, which would be powered by the new 396-cu.in. V-8. Known as the Z16 Chevelle, the project involved 201 1965 Malibu Sport coupes. |

The name came about when GM held a press day in November 1966 at Riverside International Raceway in California. "There wasn't any suggestion of what we were going to call this car," Piggins said at the time. "When it came down to having to decide, somebody just said, 'Hey, it's RPO (Regular Production Order) Z-28; let's call it Z/28! So the name stuck." |

Herb Fishel started working for Vince Piggins in 1969. His first assignment was to develop the cross-ram intake manifold for the Z/28. |
