Today was a bucket list item checked off.
My Dyno day was a success (longer than planned but successful) Al Corporon and Shane Peter came to be part of today, it was really nice to share this great day. The morning was blown by installing the inner valve springs, a lot of little delays ate up the morning, so costs increased:-( Time and Material cost money in my world. Joe and FJ were thorough, helpful, knowledgeable, and had no issues dealing with a rookie. After the vs’s the engine was started and warmed up again and a baseline run was made, followed by runs 2-3-4-5-6 all to get the carb and timing bang on. Dan Jensen did a fantastic job on the carb and ignition almost no adjustments were needed. I had decided not to share the engine builders details as I have seen issues with engine builders and paint shops in the past and if an issue had arisen I wanted to skip the public drama. No drama, the engine performed very well. The engine machine shop I had complete the rebuild was ideal supply in listowel Ontario. Kevin Loder (Lead engine builder) took care of my project from start to finish and really made it a wonderful experience!! He took all my crazy questions in stride and built a stout W31. Ryan |

We had a nice chat and looked at FJ’s 65 cutlass 27K Mile car:-) Ryan |
We trialed 36 Degrees timing, and then 2 Up, 2 Down.
The engine liked 34 best:-) The dyno runs were from 2600 to 5400 rpm. The engine made over 340 Lb-Ft from 2600 to 4600, 380 Lb-Ft max at 3500. The engine made over 200 Hp at 3000 and rose incrementally all the way to 325 Hp at 5300. This engine is going to be fun!!! Ryan |
Congrats! great job. I'm sure you guys made sure that all the pushrods were spinning. With any flat tappet, as long as they are it will live.
|
Fun day you had.....ice cream soon approaching :D

Congrats Ryan - you guys gotta be stoked!!!!!!

Awesome stuff Ryan!!! It's all quite amazing how far things have progressed since the start of this thread. Word on the street is Al (the original owner) is ready to play wheelman whenever you're ready for a test and tune. :3gears: ~ Pete :beers: . |

325hp, right what they were listed at I assume this is v1.0 F.A.S.T. W-31 then? I can't recall was this stock rods or a stroker setup with 6.2" chevy rods? how come you only went to 5400rpm? she'll take a lot more you know. My vin matching build with stock rods and those heavy TRW slugs would routinely go 6200. |
Stock stroke, 3.385”
Scat H Beam rods PSMCDR W31 V1.0 (Mascar has plans to build W31 V2.0 after MCACN) The Horsepower seemed to have peaked by 5400 rpms so FJ set it to stop at 5400. I wish we went higher just to prove no more was to gain. I expect the engine could rpm higher but seems no benefit, if my trans and rear gears make the most use of the power band. Ryan |
Those snow tires are really cool.:headbang:

BTW, I'm getting ready to crack open the Rocket 350 from the 69 Olds. I got it running well, went for a couple of shake down cruises and when I pulled in the yard from the last one she was smoking pretty heavily. That's why it was parked 26 yrs ago. I figure it's time for at least a basic rebuild so I'm going to throw rings, bearings & a valve job at it. |

Nice build thanks for sharing. |
Thanks Bernard
As always I am on a parts run at MCACN:-) Time to load up my car again. I have owned the car for 1004 days, 2.7 years. The first 279 days 0.7 year was awaiting our trip to MCACN. This means I have been doing a chassis restoration for 725 days 2 years. I get down on my progress once in a while until I put it in perspective. I am proud of my accomplishments and have so many great parts ready to go on the car!!! I hope Crash brings a pilot bushing, that has me stopped as I can’t marry the engine and trans:-( Ryan |
I met Crash at MCACN, my pilot bushing got mixed up with a Chevy, I could tell by eye as it was the same size as the bearing I already bought that was wrong from Summit.
I had already chased Jody Hagg about it before MCACN and he has two on the way. I will take pictures of all the gear I picked up at MCACN, soon. I made arrangements to have a friend visit each Wednesday evening for 3 hours to work with me on the bottom of the car. I adjusted my budget to sell a few items to make room for this support. I am clearly stuck and need deadlines to get me back on track. (This will help) Ryan |
