This is an outstanding thread. Thanks to all who posted and commented.

Here are a few from my dad's archives. Grandpa took a bunch of Boy Scouts up to the snow in his 1956 Willys Wagon. Photos taken in southeastern Humboldt County, about 250 miles north of San Francisco.

The same Willys also took Grandpa and Dad fishing:

Re: Old Street Scenes

Someone sent me this picture a while back of Decatur Rd. next to NE Philly Airport in 1971. We had a lot of fun on this road till the city decided to build the 8th District police station hear which put an end to all the fun, at least on this road anyway.

We used to race there too. My buddy had a 70 GTO Judge in Orbit Orange and a ram air IV 4 speed with 3.91's. The car was fast, until he blew it up on the Blvd one night. A bif $$ car today

----The van was Bob Hamiltons wheel-stander. For such a mild mannered guy he was a wild man behind the wheel.

----This pic is before Red Alert was mini-tubbed (for want of a better term) to get the tires within the wheelwells as was mandated by NHRA......Bill S

Kris Dedrick posted this on Facebook. Neat photo from likely 1970 based on the cars on the lot.

Well, at least they weren't Dodge Charger R/T's.

Man, what a pity...and what a dumb-ass! I bet they junked that Superbird after stripping it of its running gear & etc.

I sure hope it wasn't a HEMI car. :(

wow a very uncommon triple black version. Looks like the trunk trim exclusive to the Z16 is not there.

He also said that Duntov would walk through the engineering lab(s) and request an informal update (in a thick accent): "How arrrr yu du-ing?"

After listening quietly and attentively while they explained all the technical attributes of whatever they were working on he would dismiss them, saying "...do da best you cahn...".

I have taken to saying that, now, as I walk away (which normally results in having to tell the whole story as relayed here).

I am, for some morbid reason, drawn to the old B&W accident photos. Thanks for posting. Interesting exhaust system on the '66 GTO. One muffler replaced with a mini-muffler or some such thing!

olredalert 02-01-2018 04:12 PM

----A long time ago the NCRS national meet was in Mass. north of Boston. Duntov had been invited as a guest speaker for the weekend. The host hotel was on top of a hill with a winding road from the show field up to it. Zora was given a gas powered golf cart to get around, but he deemed it too slow. Next thing we knew he had taken it apart and modified it. The thing halled ass after that and all weekend Zora could be found screaming up and down that road to the hotel.......Bill S

Looks like a glass pack.. Did you also notice the 2 small resonators back by the tailpipes too?

I remember an issue of Motor Trend in the early 70's that had an article and photos on collisions, and it was mostly muscle cars. I remember photos of SS Chevelles and others.
