More parts scored on my recent trip to the US.

Fusicks date cord spark plug wires, SS11 center cap decals, bracket for the valve cover, and wire looms, fan belt, carb return spring..... little things:-) I am getting ready for the Dyno day. My engine builder says he is done and the engine is on a skid:-)

PSMCDR rocks.

Diego says I am a thread bumper:-) maybe so?

If the thread bump has Diego in it is it really a thread bump? :-)

PSMCDR Was a blast as usual, friends, cars, alligator (to eat), you name it:-) To add to this Diego surprised Casey Marks and I with a little get together.

All three of us have been researching and tracking Project W31, The MSU Michigan State University 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S W31 drag car "project". Diego was able to contact several of the students and put a write up in his book Selling American Muscle. He set it up that three of the students would come to PSMCDR to meet and greet.

They told us stories of getting the car from Oldsmobile, trailering the car, flat towing the car, improving the car, racing the car, and on and on. This was the cherry on top of a sundae weekend!!!! Casey says I was GEEKING out, and I think that is an understatement.

One o the students told us how he thought it would be good to get the car licensed and to get a VIN, so he called Oldsmobile..... oops the car was supposed to have been scrapped.... he caught heck for that!!

One of the students even brought the original key tags:-)

Took a high speed trip to Hamilton and back yesterday, missed the rush our traffic mostly:-)

Picked up my master cylinder and water pump, rebuilt at John Stuart Power Brake Co.

I sure hope these rebuilt original parts get wows at cruise nights because I paid 4 times the price of repop:-( Holy S##t

I am getting close to having all the engine accessories completed.......

Your local cruise night guys will not appreciate what you have.....unless of course, you happen to be at a Chicago area cruise night :D

Well done :D

I have a set of GM embossed Frost shields I got from a Saskatchewan Chev dealer years ago. They go on side windows only, also have GM block heater, Interior car warmer and a pair of G70-14 Polyglas Snowtires, red stripe on one side and RWL on the other.

My W31 is ready to pick up!!!

Man is she pretty, and shortly I will have the dyno results to back up the pretty paint job :-)

Ryan

Postsedan 09-27-2017 11:58 PM

I would have painted it myself.....no fun in having an engine builder paint my engine, only to leave runs in it :-(

Looking forward to your pictures....show me the paint runs :D

"SNG's" Dave Siltman and Paul Martin always have my build in mind.

Very used Cragars and Bias ply snow tires are en route:-)

Thanks guys for all your help!!

Ryan

PS: Beautiful, Oldsmobile loving wife asked how many rims I have:-) that is a little to personal:-) A gentleman never tells.

PPS: Crappy Cragar Center's needed:-)

Tentatively set the run-in and dyno day for October 26th.

Now I really need to get all the little ducks in a row.

mockingbird812 10-05-2017 07:18 PM

What kind of numbers are you looking to get Ryan?

Ryan1969Chevelle 10-05-2017 09:03 PM

Stock is 325HP @ 5600 and 360 Ft/Lbs @ 3600

I am hoping for 350HP, and 385Ft/Lbs.

Blueprinted with minor upgrades but nothing signifantly different than stock. PSMCDR compliant by a long shot. Pump gas friendly.

Ryan

mockingbird812 10-05-2017 09:35 PM

Good luck!!!!

Ryan1969Chevelle 10-06-2017 12:53 AM

I have a good chat with FJ about the dyno day, this is a little tough as I know very little and he knows too much. I am making lists and gathering parts. I think I will bolt the accessories on at the engine builder and take it to FJ’s as complete as possible. The charge is a “one day dyno” so I need to make my time count.

The engine has to be run in with outer valve springs then I have to install the inners and we can let her rip:-)

I dropped off my original alternator for rebuild. (I need to find out what finish the fan came with) I dropped off my incorrect starter just for a look/quote, it was bolted on nuclear tight so I assume it is crushed and cracked... anyone have a core?

I stopped at the igloo to pick up any engine related items, plugs, filters, oil, ex manifolds, so I can get prepared.

I have to ask if I should bring headers? I don’t think there will be time but I may throw them in...

I sent some seat belt photos to Canuck, hope we can swap some 1971’s for 1969’s!!!

That's awesome Ryan. Good luck at dyno day. I think the Rocket in the 69 just gave up the ghost. I took a decent ride with it the other day and when I got back it was blowing a pretty good cloud of blue smoke. That's what it was parked for 26 years ago, so I'm not surprised. I'm trying to decide what to do about a motor now. Here's what she looks like with the new sneakers and wheels.

Glad your back!!

Not enough Green Cutlass S’s around here:-)

A stock rebuild would not be too crazy costly. (I got a little carried away:-)

Thanks. We all have bad days once in a while lol. I'm thinking stock rebuild for this one. We'll see what happens. Carried away is what I get with my other cars sometimes. Here's to some nice dyno numbers for you.:beers:

I have spent a few more evenings gathering, organizing, searching, ticking off boxes in my list of items needed for Dyno day.

The only show stopper right now is my starter, if anyone has an 1108348 1969 Oldsmobile V8-350 High Compression and V8-400 core to rebuild I would rather have a numbers starter rebuilt........ please look in your stashes.

Ryan

Ryan1969Chevelle 10-17-2017 10:44 PM

More and more small items to find or buy, or get ready.

I bought a numbers starter core but it won’t be rebuilt and ready in time, so I bought a NAPA starter too (for sale soon 100 CAD)

Long fuel filter, dip stick, etc, etc.

The only show stopper now is flywheel bolts, the ones the engine builder ordered were flexplate.... he is swapping them for proper ones.

The heat is on!!!!

Ryan

Ryan1969Chevelle 10-19-2017 11:44 PM

Picked up fuel filter, Clutch and flywheel Arp bolts, rotor, starter

Picked up Short pipes flanged for the exhaust manifolds for Dyno

Picked up my original alternator rebuilt/restored.

It’s all coming together.

Point of no return:-)

I have some loading to do tonight and then off to FJ’s first thing. Tomorrow is only delivery and preparations. I have to bolt on the accessories.

I picked up my Service Replacement W31 Block as well. I need to store it safe.

Go Ryan, Go Ryan, Go Ryan

Ryan1969Chevelle 10-26-2017 01:48 AM

Did better than expected, got all the accessories sorted out.

They started the engine and completed the break in. Sounds awesome!!

First thing tomorrow, oil change, install inner valve springs and start to make some real noise.
