Re: Aircraft pics
[ QUOTE ]
Correct Andy. The Thunderbird four-ship main formation flew their T-38 Talons into the ground during a practice in January of 1982, killing all four pilots. The skinny on that one was that the formation leader initiated the loop with insufficient altitude to pull out at the bottom and they all went in. The USAF concocted a story about a system malfuncion in the leader's T-38 but it has been soundly refuted, unofficially. The reason the other three followed their leader into the ground is because they keep their eyes glued on lead's airplane and they're used to ground rush so they dutifully followed him in. The leader didn't make a warning radio call to his formation probably because he had both hands on the stick and was pulling with all his might to avoid ground impact. The other three probably felt the G-load build up over what they were used to (as lead pulled for his life) and probably saw the impact coming at the last second but it was too late. [/ QUOTE ] did something like this happen to the blue angles to? |
Re: Aircraft pics
I found this...
[ QUOTE ] In their entire history, 23 pilots from the group have been killed in air show or training accidents with the most recent incident taking place in 1999 when a Hornet crashed in Georgia killing two pilots. [2] [/ QUOTE ] |
Re: Aircraft pics
Thanks Bruce seems like its been a few years ago I heard the blue angles did the same thing maybe it was the thunderbirds that I heard about

Re: Aircraft pics
It's odd that the video of the Thunderbird crash ( all 4 jets )
never surfaced on the net over all these years. I know the families of the pilots asked the media not to ever show it again in respect of the lost aviators, but we're talking about the media. I heard the same about the Challenger disaster, but we've all seen that video a million times. Steve |
Re: Aircraft pics
great stuff guys...anyone recall where the vid is of the
P-51 that buzzed old -spelling wrong- decantes from speed??? that is a cool one!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: Aircraft pics
Yeah Bud, that was a Spitfire that flattened Alan DeCadanet! That is a great video. Watch for the bow wave of the Spit to flatten the grass a second before it passed over the camera crew. I'd attach it if I knew how---just YouTube "Spitfire" and I'll bet it's near the top.

Re: Aircraft pics
I figured out how to post a video. DeCadanet utters a few f-words so you might not want your kids to watch.

Great shots...the radial powered bike is pretty cool too!.
The plane behind the bike is maybe a Grumman of some type, Wildcat, Hellcat...bring on the experts?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Aircraft pics
It is too bad they have basically killed the unlimited air races, used to love going to the Phoenix 500, quite loud and low, too many gozillionaires dying though

There ya' go...thanks Rick!.
As I indicated, I'm not the expert and the only Trojans I've ever had experience 'flying' were the prophylactic type!. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif ~ Pete |

Wanna go for a ride with this guy? Shows the maneuverability of this 40 yr old design, still in production. The guy flying is a damn good stick.

Re: Aircraft pics
No thanks! I did aerobatics in a helicopter once, I think I will stay with a fixed wing. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif However, that guy is damn good! I love it when the panel van panics and backs up. What were they doing there in the first place?

Re: Aircraft pics
I've ridden in the back seat of a Columbus Police Dept. MD-500 chopper, and before that I rode shotgun in their 2 seater Swietzer 300. These guys tell me that this is as close to daily aerobatic flying as you can get. I only puked once in 10 years. For me it was scary but the coolest experience of my life. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Aircraft pics
Ok Does size matter? B29 (a rather large plane) and a B 36 an even larger plane also note this picture was taken before they added the 4 jet engines on the wing ends . " 6 turning 4 burning" http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u.../b-36_b-29.jpg
|
Re: Aircraft pics
If you want to see and hear a B-36 in flight, get a copy of the 1955 movie "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart.
Here's an early B-36B with arctic red markings. Six 4,360 cubic-inch 28 cylinder radial engines. Four rows of seven cylinders in each engine, 56 spark plugs per engine. Incidentally, the B-36 was considered to be overpowered, even before the twin-jet pods were added to the outboard wings. (This one does not have the jet pods.) http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../B-36Color.jpg Here's the one-and-only cargo version, the XC-99, landing at San Diego in early 1948. This airplane still exists at the former Kelly AFB in San Antonio. One of the C-99's original main wheels, seen here before conversion to multiple-wheeled main gear, is on display at the USAF Museum at Dayton and it is over six feet in diameter. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...s/XC-99SAN.jpg |

Re: Aircraft pics
If you are into aircraft - old and new - and get to Reading Pa in June - this is a show you won't want to miss.
Besides dozens of WW II aircraft there are military planes from the Viet Nam era through today's modern ships. You can even get a ride on B-17 Flying Fortresses! I have attended this several times and it has been great - unfortunately due to my sons AAU Basketball commitments I have not made it to the last couple of shows - but friends told me last years show was massive. Check out their web site: http://www.maam.org/wwii/ww2_sched.htm http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...435/fam518.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...435/fam519.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...435/fam520.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...435/fam521.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...435/fam471.jpg |

Just received these last night from my brother in Phoenix. He hoped to be starting the wiring restoration on the B-17 soon. Present are B-17 "Sentimental Journey", B-17 "Liberty Bell". B-25 "Maid in the Shade" and I believe TB-25J "Ole Gray Mare" (is that where she got her name from.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif ). Nice gathering of WWII bombers.
