69 Yenko Chevelle found

Congrats to Rick & Annie on your righteous barn find. As a Newbie to this website, I am amazed at the comraderie of its members. I am a firm believer in Karma and that good things happen to good people. I asked my Dad many years ago how does he finds such good deals on things and he replied that he waits for the good deals to find him, but to be ready to jump on them right away as someone else may beat you to it.There aren't that many Yenko Chevelles left out there and I know it is in good hands. The shape it is in structurally is phenominal. Was the interior color parchment or black, as I may have missed it in reading 20 pages. I have several friends in the Louisville area due to drag racing with my brother in NHRA division 3 Stock class over the years and ate at a place I believe was called Momma's Barbecue, really good food! That Chevelle is definitely a keeper, please do not sell once completed as you both deserve it.

It amazes me the true enthusiasts I meet in this hobby. I have received many calls from the msn.com story and one gentleman from Washington and I talked for some time. He had no ties to me, the car or Yenkos at all but had a pair of V.V. Cooke license plate frames and wanted me to have them even though they were in poor shape and the wrong years. I thought it was awesome and will put them on our wall in our display room and will not be for sale. Thank you Mike V, a true hobbyist and now friend.

Better late than never for me to read this thread.

Congrats on an awesome find Rick and Annie! :headbang:

Big swap meet in Louisville this weekend. There might be some VV Cooke stuff there.

SS427 03-10-2018 03:14 AM

If you are there I would be interested in anything you might come across. I'm available all weekend via phone. Thanks for the heads up.

Rick, do you know about what year the top frame was used. I have one from Beasley-Cross Chevrolet in Kannapolis NC that looks just like your frame even the red paint.

Bob, I do not nor did the gentleman who passed them onto me. It would be nice to know so that it will add to the history of the dealership. From what I was told one of the salesman from the era at V.V. Cooke now works for another dealership that either took it over or was nearby. I need to find the time to get back to Louisville to find my transmission and follow up on some of these other leads and meet some of the many people from the area that have contacted me.

People just continue to amaze me. Thanks to a fellow member "Big Gear Head" who offered to look at his local Louisville swap meet this past weekend and located some items for me, then introduced me onto another gentleman he met at the swap meet who had a ton of memorabilia. I have come across some really neat stuff though have not been able to purchase just yet. Thanks Freddie!

Then today I get this small USPS package in the mail with this really cool and hard to come by NOS blue bow tie emblem. No note, no nothing. After doing some sleuthing and back tracking the package I found it was from our buddy Mark Bulow. So I call Mark and ask him what he was doing. Says he wants to make a donation to mine and Annie's project to pay it back for something we did for him MANY years ago. I did not even remember it until he brought it up. Anyway, thank you Mark and Freddie! Such a breath of fresh air around here and to have and make such good friends.

mockingbird812 03-12-2018 08:04 PM

Now THAT is stand up!! Well played Mark. It is certainly going to a good cause!!

big gear head 03-12-2018 08:23 PM

I'll get that stuff sent out to you in a few days. The only blue bow tie that I spotted in Louisville was for the rear of a '69 Camaro. I didn't see any of the other parts that you were looking for.

SS427 03-12-2018 08:59 PM

Send me a bill Freddie and I will Paypal you the funds. :)

This is fantastic!

ronzz572 03-13-2018 12:47 AM

Hey Rick did this car come with Atlas alloy wheels on it new?

Luis 03-13-2018 01:30 AM

Congratulations....I'm very happy for you guys. I know it will return back to it glory days. Hope to see it when done.

SS427 03-13-2018 01:05 PM

Ron, no it did not but very likely that is what is going back on it.

Luis, THANK YOU for all your help as always. Luis drove over 8 hours to pick up a door in Maryland and deliver it to Jamie Cooper in Pennsylvania that I needed. That was WAY above what most anyone would do and greatly appreciate. Luis is one in a million!

----Would love to know where that yard is as I believe I saw that car at V.V.Cooke in approximately 1977/78 in storage. Same color, and had a bunch of rare stuff on it, including a magnesium third member. It was raced hard and supposedly did very well. Back then I didn't know enough to go after it!.......Bill S

SS427 03-15-2018 02:22 PM

I have not seen the picture but have been talking with a couple of gentlemen who contacted me with V.V. Cooke memorabilia and one talked about this and a few of the other V.V. Cooke race Vettes. One selling for over $1M I was told.

Also got an offer to bring our car back to the original V.V. Cooke building and do a photo shoot inside (if it is still empty then). That would be pretty cool. Need to trailer it to Canonsburg and do the same thing there.

The amount of help and offers to help we have received from people is amazing. People are coming out of the woodwork with stories and rare items.

That's called karma, Rick. Like I said on the phone, you and Annie deserve all of it!! :)

That is almost hard to believe.

No part of this story or the actual find was embellished or made up and am only repeating what I was told. That being said, I would have to agree with you and found it hard to believe myself especially being a multi car owner himself. My tech was there on the first visit and Don Stowers on the second to back everything up.

It’s a million to one shot, of course it is hard to believe :-)

Got my block back from the machine shop today. Very nice original MQ paint code still intact. Also found a "C 3 0" written on the front driver's side of the block. The engine was assembled on January 23rd so it is not a casting or assembly scribble.
