Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"

Well....several things are going to prevent that from happening this month. Mainly, the wiper motor is out being restored and until that comes back the dash won't go in since it's a royal pain hooking that up with the dash installed. Steer & Gear has the steering box, so I'm waiting on that too. but in the meantime, I've got the whole interior, doors, headliner/v-top, and another polishing round to do. Not to mention a bunch of redoing junk on the steering linkage finishes. Good thing I'm not planning on having this judged! So fear not! I'll have more updates and pics forthcoming!

And Bill....would have been nice to meet you too. Definitely next year! I'll be hanging around a certain car next year so be sure and say hi. And as far as the pics, that would be me with a tripod/ timer handy! I know.....pretty dorky but it's all for fun [once verified that nothing will fall on me if I move to set the camera! Window regulator final detail. Markings put back where I found them. Will you see them? Nope. Does anyone care? Not really. Is it cool!? Of course it is!!!!!! And you can see that part tag number hanging in the quarter window too

Parking brake foot pedal, parking brake lines all installed.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2202.jpg

Something unique on the front fender splash shield retaining bolt at the fender. Looking at several survior cars, this bolt was blacked out with a a brush, not spray. I have seen some not blacked out, some got sprayed with the undercoating, but for the most part, this was hand painted. Just another detail item nobody will notice....or think much of.....or care about!

Below you can see the torsion bar details. Remember those factory drips? Now you can see them installed. They don't face downwards...they basically face which ever way they happened to be installed. Torsion bars are indexed Left and Right. And the part number faces aft and is visible through the torsion bar crossember. 780 and 781 are the numbers for mine as depicted on the Broadcast sheet. OOOOOO! And you can see the cylinder bore size letters just barely under the engine paint telling the engine builder guy what sized piston ring to get!

Front end with the K-Member support brace and that "2" marking I found. I used the survivor Bee's marking to simulate mine since mine was pretty far gone to really determine what it looked like.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn2212.jpg

Transmission crossmember marking. What do all of these mean, anyway???? I'm pretty sure they were put there by guys knowing that in 45yrs people will be looking at them like cave paintings trying to decipher what they mean so they made them as stupid and vauge as possible!

Front suspension just about buttoned up. I'm waiting on some NOS upper control arm bumpers to come in before I get the massive drums on and let the suspension "hang". Once those are in, the car goes up in the air as far as I can get it with jack stands and then I can spray the undercoating in the wells. Yep....all this stuff goes on first then the junk gets sprayed over everything. I'm going to be a little neater than the factory was, but still going to get it as close as I can to the factory look.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2222.jpg

I detailed my spare tire with a few markings, paint blop where the wheel weight is to be installed, and the "104" sticker. I need to repaint the rim since it's a bit dull and showing some wear. All wheels are the correct 15 x 6 JJ "H" wheels. 4 are dated correct but two are a little out of date for my build. Is that the UPS GUY??!?!?

Are those massive rear window tracks cast aluminum, or steel ?

Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"

Mike,
The regulator and arms are galvanized steel. The big track window mounting is cast aluminum. Lots of photos of that thing out of the car to remember how it all goes back together. Then again, this is my 9th B-Body so you'd think I'd remember how it all goes together!

Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"

Finally got a box of parts in so I can make some more progress! Since I detailed up the spare, I'm itchin' to get that bad boy in there! Using the survior car as a reference, I decided to stamp my trunk mat to match.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2304.jpg
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2305.jpg

As you can see on the above image, the pattern is repeated on the roll of material that is used for the mat, so the upper number gets cut off if you continue the repetition. Makes it looks more authentical n' stuff!

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn2301.jpg
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn2315.jpg

Jack installed, mat in place, and the spare secured down....

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...vivorspare.jpg
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2307.jpg

The top picture is the spare tire from a 5600 Mile survivor Bee, and the below picture is my rendition of it for my car. What do the markings mean? Best I can tell, they were the intials of the worker that installed the spare in the car that day. I'm just kidding, but now that it's here black and white on the intermanet, I'm sure it won't be long before it pops up on another forum as gospel! Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"

Vinyl top has been laying out for the past few weeks, and next month I'll install it. It's been boxed up for quite a while, so I want it to lay out for a good month or two to get most of the harder wrinkles out before it gets glued down. Nothin' one of them heat guns can't get out,or a propane torch, but still..... this helps!
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2311.jpg

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2312.jpg
Above you can see the yellow tick marks that I applied at each reveal molding screw hole. Once the top is in place, this will make finding those nice and easy. After I removed my top I found these marks at each hole, front and back, where it was covered by the vinyl top. Pretty cool!!!!! So you know I had to replicate that, but this time, they actually have some sort of meaning and purpose.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn2321.jpg
Installing the hardtop side window to quarter glass seals. With only 53,000 miles on the Bee, these were actually in really good shape but they did have wear, so best to replace.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2317.jpg
Installing the rear quarter window...let's see..if I move this screw in, that pushes that out. But if I move that screw out, it pushes that.....hmm....still pushes that out....how did this darn thing go in here, anyway!?!?!?!

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2325.jpg

Success! Everything lined up, nothing broke (yet), and the windows actually go up and down!

I added the grease to my hinges, and I'll dust on some V2 basecoat shortly. Yep...they greased and painted right over the trunk bushings where meet the trunk lid arms. I held off doing that when I was painting for fear of contamiantion being sprayed all over and winding up, where else, but on the quarter panels!

53,000 mile door panels. I'm scrubing them with a good cleaner and back in they will go. My goal is to keep a few things original with the car unless they are too far gone. These door panels are in mint condition both the front and back!

Thanks guys! Darrell, I know it man. That job thing has been rearing it's head as of late! But it pays the bills and allows me to put money into something other than savings HA! The Bobinator told me to get into writing. There's huge, no, Montountinous amounts of money involved in writing articles for Muscle Car magazines. The rewards are fruituit...frutuit...fra...it pays well. Problem is, nobody wants to hear what I have to say anyway.....just ask my wife!

Green Zee....I painted the top since I wanted the car to look cool while it was sitting waiting for the top to go on. No other reason than that, really. I would have done it Hemi Orange but just wanted the contrast. The base/clear provides a nice layer of protection under the top over just the DP Epoxy. It'll be scuffed with a Scotch Brite Gray pad before the glue goes on and the top goes down. You'll know if it doesn't work when I attend the PSMCD that following year and the top goes flying off and hits my opponent! Hey, that may be how I can advance to the next round!!?? It sure won't be from shifting correctly!

Ooooo! Parts parts parts!!! What's in the box?! Boxes! Parts! Oooooooooo!
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...229_071609.jpg

Of all the parts on the Bee that I've redone myself, there are always a few that are best left for the people that specialize in the parts that they specialize in. I for one, know my limitations. And those limitations put limits on my ability to not be limited by my limits. So, what's all that mean? I done sent my wipey motor to Bruce Somer in CA and I was like a kid on Christmas day opening the box! It's hard to tell the excitement in my photo, I know.......here's the before and after:

Back in it's rightful place in the engine bay! It's one less box on the shelf. Amazingly, the boxes on the shelf are shrinking but they are being filled up with other junk almost instantaneously!

Trimming up the front carpet. I should have this all installed next week! uphttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2344.jpg

I had my steering box upgraded by Steer & Gear to have more of a "sport" versus the original "Lusitania" feel like all old Mopars have Kelly even comments how much "power" there is in the steering and it feels like you're sailing the high seas! Right before I parked the Bee and decided I didn't want a driving car anymore, we went for a cruise and I blurted out "Hard a port, Matey! Yyyaaarrrrrr! Ye' bountiful spoils await! Yyaarrr!" Her reply? "Oh, you mean Sonic is on the left?" And why I sounded like a pirate in that sentence but was referring to a luxury liner that outdated the pirates by 250yrs is beyond me!
