They were in a magazine from '70-72.. I want to say Supercars or Cars.. I was going through old mags and found them on one of the pages.. I know they werent really newspapers ads but very close..

There is a green 1969 L89 Chevelle (real or not I can't say) but no vinyl top.

I haven't seen any info on this one before.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, how do you come up with these?

My HM L78 was sold as a used car Stowasser Pontiac / Olds about 1971. It was then in the LA Times in 2000. I'd love to find the ad(s)

There's literally tons of stuff Tim but how you look/search makes a big difference on finding it or not...also luck!
Any success seeking specific vehicles depends on the old newspaper pages w/ the actual ads you're seeking having been scanned in recent years as although a lot have, most haven't and probably never will be?
I quickly tried searching Stowasser Pontiac also LA Times 1999-2001 and it seems there's little there for either but I'll try again later.
As for Drag Strip results, here's one post from further back in the thread showing some 1966 results at Lion's track.
There may be something similar from later years too so let me know what name/years you think the car was racing at Lions or other tracks and I'll give it a whirl.
Love your '68 L88 HM car!

Pete,

Stowasser Pontiac was about 71. While we are still confirming, we suspect the 2nd owners name was Mike (or Michael Satore of Santa Maria, CA. If our research is correct, he was killed between April 13 and April 15, 1971 in a car accident in Santa Barbara. We are searching to see if there is a newspaper article to this effect.

The LA Times ad was in 2000.

Any help is genuinely appreciated!

Any Lion's Strip results listed appear to be of major names/classes, not local boys and their cars?
Sad but I did find the ad w/ Lion's track equipment and truck for sale after closing in Dec. '72, as below.
Keep digging Tim and hopefully something clicks!

One says 68 camaro with new L88 $2600.seems like the engine would cost quite a bit. What would a new L88 cost in the early 70s?

According to my '71.5 Motion catalog a Phase III 450hp 427ci was $1495. So I would say it was probably around that price..

It's funny how many old ads have everything with a 427 in it, with nary a 396 to be found. Wishful thinking/willful ignorance or were there that many 427's back then?

I don't think so Mark. I remember back in the eighties I saw the same thing in my local Mpls Star and Tribune. I looked at literally hundreds of these cars and those advertised with 427's for them most part indeed had them. Many a car was purchased solely for the 427 engine and then another engine was swapped in and the car was sold. At one time I had many 427 engines and cars. I only wish I had kept some of those engines. One was yellow painted 425 hp 427 with a low rise 2x4 with some neat history. Unfortunately I heard the cha ching before I listened to the history so off it went. That was in 1981.
