Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Good thing we're all different as it sure keeps things interesting around here. I like 'em plain jane w/ performance options only, bench seats & rubber mats also any standard options deleted wherever possible...especially those substituted w/ blank parts & delete plates. As Ryan and I discussed before he got the car, the B90 trim was the one thing I didn't love about it yet he was so happy it had it but also told me then how he didn't like the Hood Tach where being a DIXC also Day-2 added by Al, that surprised me as I thought it was just the CLEST! Lastly, I have to admit I had also mentioned to Ryan that B90 or not, if it was a '70 W31 Post car instead of a '69...I wouldn't have been calling him. ~ Pete |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Pete,
I agree with you....I like them Plain Jane. Bench seat, 4 Speed, Rubber floor, non-hidden wipers, no power steering, no power options, radio delete I believe Ryan will pay homage to this W-31 and leave it just as it is.....if it were mine.....I would remove the Hood Tach, (IMO, just doesn't look correct, it takes away from the beauty of this Post Sedan) and add wheel well trim. I just think the WWT really goes with the B90 trim and the Glade Green. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I had a buddy over to see the car and check out the fancy binder I started with all the docs, and the more I learn about the car the more I love her!!
we Al like different things, the B90 trim is my favorite part of the whole car!! WWT TBD? Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I would consider reapplying the stripes, get her running/driving with a mechanical overhaul, tidy up the interior to make it comfortable and enjoy the car as-is. If your dream 1969 Chevelle SS Post Sedan happens to turn up, you won't have too much money in the Olds and an easy seller... if that's the way you decide to go.
Personally, I really like patina on a car! |

Hi Mike:-) In General: Step #1: Nothing but investigation, documentation, research, and purchasing of needed items, till after MCACN, so they let me bring her to the BF/HG Display. Step #2: Clean, polish, scrub, service, repair, reinstall every item that came with the car that I can still use, install new parts purchased during Step #1 such as carpet, headliner, seat covers, rebuild the mechanicals, get it certified, and drive it as is. Step #3: Undetermined.....I have a feeling it will be so much fun with crappy paint I may want to have spot repairs done and enjoy the heck out of it. Step #4: Drive it to Chevelle, (park out behind the porta-potties) and Oldsmobile shows all over the place!!! Best thing about this hobby is it don't matter what 10 people say to do or what they would do. Its a personal choice to do a car what ever way you want it. My dad always told me when looking at a car is picture it in your drive way and if you can see it sitting there and your happy that is all that matters

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Just remember what "Ole Blue Eyes" sang.... "I did it my way". Ryan, take opinions for what they are....someone else's. Suggestions pretty much the same. Listen and learn from the Olds guys, they are different than Chevrolets. It is all nuts and bolts and with the correct manuals, you'll figure out those differences. "Do it nice, not twice".

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
It just keeps getting better and better Ryan! The 7 imported can't refer just to Vin prefix Model 36779 being there was obviously more '69 Canadian Cutlass V8 Club Coupe Post cars also not W31's alone either as the # of Canadian W31's is higher when including Hardtops so must refer to Canadian V8 Post cars equipped w/ W31? That makes the next question, does this indicate 7 Canadian 36779 Cutlass Club Coupes w/ W31 alone or including W31 equipped Model 32779 F85 V8 Club Coupes too? ~ Pete </div></div> I discussed this with George at VVS, George said that we made these cars (Oldsmobile) in Oshawa as well as the US so the bulk of the cars sold in Canada were made in Canada. The number 7 is only an indicator of THE BODY STYLE imported he has no breakdown by option codes, so he doesn't know how many of the 7 were W31 cars. But the 7 were "Model Number: 33677 Cutlass 'S' 2dr Club Coupe" as the W31 cars were only assembled in Lansing MI it would stand to reason a high number of the 7 would have been W31 cars.....but that is an assumption.......... I also asked another question to try to find out how many of the 7 were W31 cars: Ryan "Is there a way to find out how many of the other 7 sold in Canada were high horsepower cars/W-Machines? George: "not without a VIN number" Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I'd say the talk with the original owner will answer a lot of questions, especially the radio. My '69 W-31 is similar to Ryan's car in several ways and was ordered without the radio and corresponding equipment. There is a continuing debate over the term "radio delete" as these cars had NO radio as standard equipment. The first owner of my car (sold in Feb. '71 after it's racing days) wanted a radio, so an Am was installed along with an antenna. Yes, they drilled the hole in the fender WAY back in 1971.....funny thing about mine?!? the owner's name is written on the radio!
I can believe Ryan's car could have come without a radio, if it, too was intended to race. |
