Re: Musclecar and Corvette Nationals...MCACN

We left NJ today at 10 am. We got 130 miles and engine in my Suburban started smoking out the exhaust. Turned around and headed back home. The 6.5 diesel exploded 30 miles from home, luckily at my passenger's exit, 2 miles from his house. Had the Suburban towed to his driveway while my buddy's wife picked him up and drove him back to my home town where another buddy loaned us his brand new 2013 diesel Dodge. He then drove back to get me and the trailer. We were back on the road at 5:00 PM. It's now midnight and we are at Ohio border.
Is there a bad luck trophy contest? Because I think I'm in the running. This is one very expensive trip.

The silver lining for all of us is this is perfect timing for a new build thread from you. Kwhizz's build should be done pretty soon and we'll need something to keep us entertained over the winter months.

Hopefully our trip won't be as exciting. Our 12 passenger van (<span style="font-style: italic">seats out</span>) is loaded to the max, and we're heading out in a few hours for the 400+ mile drive. Setting up tomorrow, then it's SHOWTIME Sat &amp; Sun! I'm ready... really ready. Yikes, now I've jinxed myself. Hope not. Good luck to ALL traveling!

What I need is for Kwhizz to install a ZL1 engine in my Suburban.

Looks like it was the head gasket. Blew the radiator catch tank cap off and and the rest of the coolant went out the exhaust pipe in a white mushroom cloud.

*Destruct buttons* Isn't that the ignition switch on a 6.5 GM Diesel? Just kidding. Steve did VERY well going 123,000 miles with out any major issues. Nice to have friends that will lend him a New Truck with a phone call! We all need friends like that. See you at the Show.

Steve, I feel your pain. Our Bookmobile (w/ over 2,500 auto books onboard) has had a catastrophic failure in transit through West Virginia. With 9 author signings we will be improving. We will have our authors books, but that's it. :-(

Boarding soon for Chicago, decided to wear my Blackhawks T shirt from last trip. Customs lady gave me heck (Leafs Fan) She suggested walking in groups if I wear this shirt on the way home.

Was to leave with the car Thursday but had to cancel 3 weeks ago. Seems everyone wanted to make settlement on their new homes in November. After the mortgage meltdown, I couldn't miss this opportunity to make up some ground. 37 years as a REALTOR, 2007-11 was terrible.

Oh well, next year I'll make plans again for MCACN.

We had just pulled out of the Corvette &amp; MuscleCar Nationals last night, as we were vending there. We were first in line at the stoplight (red) and watching some cars that had pulled out via a different door, as they were in the cross traffic. Then low and behold, the Sox &amp; Martin Pro Stock Duster (was in the show) was in the turn lane - and then turned - driving right in front of us - to head toward the trailer I assume. In all it's noisy-ness (is that a word?) anyway, way way cool. Pitch black out other than a few street lights, and the roar of the open exhaust Hemi Red-White-Blue Sox &amp; Martin car. I'll picture it in my mind forever! WAY COOL end to a great weekend...

Dear Bob, (AKA BASHTON)lol

Now that things have settled from the show, I want to thank you, your wife and the many hundreds of people that helped you put another GREAT show together. Sorry this note is coming in a month late.
Both myself &amp; a friend of mine from Montana wore out our shoes there, in fact it practically crippled him and he's half my age. Again thanks for the extremely hard work.
Anyway Merry Christmas and hope to see you next year. Dicky

Bob

Given the fact that the Muscle car is credited with being born in 64 ( great debate here)I am sure the 50th anniversary will bring great things to MCACN. I am curious though how the class of 74 will celebrate the Catalytic Converter and 85 MPH speedometer.

Hopefully Pontiac will be well-represented, for obvious reasons. I see a string of high-quality GTOs from 64-74...and as many 74 SD T/As as the place will hold.

bashton 12-26-2013 04:01 PM

Re: Musclecar and Corvette Nationals...MCACN

Indeed, we will be hosting a special gathering of GTO's in recognition of this significant car and anniversary. I have several VERY fine examples lined up already, along with some special guests. Again, this group will be created for <span style="font-style: italic">quality,</span> not quantity, so if you have a significant example of a 1964-1974 GTO and would like to join us, please get a hold of me asap. It is not too early...planning for the 2014 show is already well underway.

As for '74, although we welcome prime examples of muscle from the 1974 model year, (think G.S. Stage 1, Super Duty etc), we are not planning on a &quot;Class of '74&quot; special display. We are, however...planning on stepping back to the year 1969 to celebrate what is obviously a much better year, Muscle Car wise.

1969, now you have my attention....

Unlimited possibilities.

Food for thought, L78/L89's, how about a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle/El Camino L89 display.........400 to chose from back in the day, I think we could get at least one of each body style to attend.

I would love to chase them down for you Bob.

Bob, a 1969 display would be very cool! I feel the 1969 model year was the wildest for American muscle cars. I know most bloggers tend to vote for 1970 being the best year, but with a few exceptions, 1969 was a banner year for over the top Detroit muscle.

Should we start a topic about this?
