I believe those holes were for El Camino's and wagons only. Chevelles didn't get cushions on the rear crossmember.

I will have to repectfully disagree with you on the cushions missing. I asked George @GS resto who has done 5 chevelles for me and several A body buicks and they were all on there. Whats interesting on my chevelle is that they put the cushions in the body mount right past the door opening on this frame where there is normally bolts. Who knows it may have been friday and they said WTF these will work aint my car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Berger 69 post SS 396 Chevelle

I've dismantled/restored several Chevelles myself, and one 69 El Camino and none of the Chevelles had the cushions on the cross member. The El Camino did have the cross member mounts. They were used to support a load that could be put in the back of the ElCamino/Wagons. I guess it's possible that some Chevelles got them as they were heading down the line, but they weren't suppose to according to the factory assembly manual.
Here's a scan of the body mount page showing the rear cross member mounts as Wagon & Pick-up (ElCamino) only.

Thanks for the picture Bill. My Chevelle is done exactly as the assy manual says it should be without the cushions on the crossmember, and that explains why there wasnt a bolt in position #3. Thanks for the info.

Re: Berger 69 post SS 396 Chevelle

My thoughts exactly Jeff. By coincidence I was undoing my body mounts today, and was wondering were the mount bolt was for the #3 position. I evntually realized that there was none for that spot, and then - bang- this picture is posted by Bill.
By the way, I'm also doing a Garnet Red 300 deluxe post.

Thats cool. You dont see too many Garnet Red post chevelles. Are you taking the body off? Maybe you can look and see if you have the cushions on the rear crossmember.

Re: Berger 69 post SS 396 Chevelle

I'll check for them Jeff. The body is coming off the frame over at the body shop on Friday. Then I'm bringing the frame back home to re-do over the winter months.
My bodyman-painter used to own and drag race my car (B/S)about 30 years ago, so he's looking forward to this project.
