Yellow?

There were 2 wax blobs.
Yellow showed where to put it but different colors were used to denote how much weight was used.

Thanks, Rick, but I was talking about the extension - not the stem itself. Most trim ring cars used an extension rather than the Dill 627. The part number is in the assy manual (which I don't have handy at the moment.

Dennis:
Here's a poor pic of a correct weight. It is a Bada MICRO. The weight marking will be on both sides of "MICRO" ie: 1.5. A larger number ie: 43 must NOT be present. This is the weight in grams and indicates a later (80's?) weight. The weight will also have raised "wings" at the outer, upper edges. These are right for probably all 60's and early 70's Chev according to Gary S. Beaupre that wrote the NCRS article. The article is over three pages in the NCRS Corvette Restorer V31, No. 3, Winter 2005 (not the Driveline as I erroneously stated in a previous post). It is excellent and you really need to get a copy if you are nutty about this level of detail. I'll bring you a weight (if I remember) when I bug you about selling the LS6 at LaHarpe like I do every year.

These weights are a lot tougher to find than Dill 627 caps but they're out there mixed in with the old weights. Tire stores everywhere will be looking for restraining orders soon.......

Installation on the backside of the rim, only, is specified in Assembly Manuals and, as Rick pointed out, was done to prevent the weights from interferring with the trim ring clips if so equipped. The weight limit, I believe, was 5 oz - then the tire rejected. Weights are always grouped ie. never one at 2 o'clock and one at 5 o'clock.

Now, I understand, the major shows will be checking lug nut torque. It must be within 2 ft/lbs or you're out! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Here's a much better photo of a correct Bada MICRO weight. Per the NCRS article, this version has a "B" instead of the weight on the left and is also considered correct.

There are several other weights considered correct, as well, includeing those marked "OEM". Remember, though, no metric weights (grams) and no increments other than 1/2 oz per the Assy Manuals. Max single weight was 2.5 oz and any combination up to 5 oz.

Correct on the yellow. They used a red and a green to denote the amount, or any combination (2 red, 2 green, 1 of each). Don't recall what meant what.

Olds put all weights on the outside of the wheel, dealers were instructed to shift weight slightly (or move to inside) if interference with trim ring/wheel cover clips. These were put in the trunk and installed at the dealer. 3 oz was the max weight allowed in repair area, 2 oz in the automatic balancer in line.

Not sure if this was same at Chev and other divs, but guess that it was or very close.
