Marlin, see if Tommy K has a shield in his distributor on the Wallace car. Mine does not.

I bought one of those distributors for my Nova years ago from a Corvette guy. It was the right part # and date with that shield in it. It was the first I ever saw one of those. I was told it was Corvette only and was to help with the radio interferance.

On the rear engine lift hook...Is that where it should mount or should it be in the head?

Peter, Was the dist. you bought a aluminum hsg. type? The reason i ask is that corvette distributors are tach drive models from 63 to 74 and they are all cast iron hsgs. I have only seen 2 original LT1 Corvettes a 70 and a 71 and they both had TI ignitions ( I work for a Corvette shop), i dont think these shields will fit in the dist., with the TI pickup and pole piece. I have never seen the shield on Corvettes, not to say they did not use them on base cars.
My 69 Survivor Z28 ( owned since 72 ) came with a box of extra,s in the trunk, and in the box was the original dated smog pump,tubes etc, some small parts and also those point shields.
I was told that they did not use them until 70 on a post on TC, so they never went back in.
The 6,000 mile 70 CTB Engine is mine, it was out of a Rolled over 70 Z28, wrecked back in 70/71. I can assure everybody that it is DEFINATELY original and unmolested. It still has the original Delco Script Cap and Dated wires and Green Ring Plugs also.
Maybe the point shields were a Canadian Production deal only?
Weird?
I will check to see if the line bracket has part numbers and answer tonite when i get home from work.

The rear engine lift hook is in the correct place, but how about the different bolts used on it and the front lift hook?

Kurt, per the blueprints, all 1111437 (LS6) distributors were to be delivered with the shields installed. As a mechanic back in the late 70's and early 80's, I recall this being one of the VERY first things that got tossed the first time the distributor cap came off the car. I agree however, it is not often you still see any installed on cars today.

I owned a survivor 1970 Z (18K miles) and it did have the shields as well. The first thing I did was take them off and put them in the glove box.

Is the corvette place you work for Southwestern Corvette??? If so, say hi to Mike. He knows who I am!

......I wanted to further explain my statement about the rare TCS clip, that was previously mentioned. The following TOP picture shows Jack S's other 70 Z-28 which is restored & Citrus Green. The 2nd Gen Z-28 "experts" (at nastyz28.com) cant document the use of this clip at Norwood or L.A. Given the fact that almost eveyone removed the AIR "smog" from 70 Z-28's this clip is very rare to be found today. CENTER pic show closeup of clip.....BOTTOM pic shows another/different clip on right rear upper valve cover bolt that retains wires running to 432 TCS Solenoid/Switch......
I would like info/history as to why DUECE CTB engines didnt have TCS temp senders in Right head.....how was that function served otherwise.....regards, Chuck S
