I wasn’t happy with how the trunk lid was coming out so I blocked it out again and laid down some more clear tonight. I’m getting tons of practice doing everything twice….

What clear are you using and what gun/volume. Looks like it flowed out nicely.

Stressful moments. Drilling holes. I didn’t get the trunk lid emblem holes done before painting it so I’ll have to touch them up to prevent rusting but here is where I am now.

Using Chick R’s measurements for the non spoiler hole location I drilled the three Fisher body holes where the emblem got placed. (A fourth hole gets swallowed up in the upcoming spoiler mounting hole) Locations marked as A on the paper.

Then on D80 option cars the emblem got moved forward 3.27” and new holes drilled. To locations marked B on paper.

Using Jerry M’s Z/28 book I mocked up where the pin stripe will be to make sure the interface between the stripe and emblem is good, and the stripe fell right at the spoiler little support leg like I see in a few of these. I compared to several original paint cars.

Dave Beem’s blue Z was built on the same day as mine so when everything was lining up to match it I felt pretty good about the layout. There is a good bit of variation but this car seems to be a middle point from the ranges I’ve seen.

I used my header panel emblem to drill the holes that will be hidden by the spoiler (visible when the trunk is open) but I’m looking for the correct trunk lid emblem before I drill the forward holes….just in case there is any variation in the mounting studs.

I found an original trunk lid emblem. All the parts houses sell the front and rear as the same but the profile of the Chevrolet section of the emblem is tapered on the front header emblem (shown on the right) and squared off on the rear trunk lid one.

Interesting. I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks

The rear trunk lid emblem is part number 7752901. The header panel emblem is part number 3916654, both cast into the backside of the emblem.

There are several 2901 pieces on eBay but the quality is pretty variable.
