The one my friend drove was definitely a 427 car according to him. He was friends of the Yenko family as there was Yenko family connection in Clarion, PA.

It looks like this one has the holes for the 427 emblem

The 396 cars had different emblem placement?

One of my friends told me a story several years ago about a 427 Nova one of his friends bought new at Gates Chevrolet. Apparently his friend had to work late the day the car came in so his friend arranged for him to pick it up at the dealership and bring it to his place of work. My friend said that was the fastest car he had ever driven at the time. I asked him if it was a Yenko Nova and he said it wasn't. He remembered it as being blue and not having any stripes. I always assumed it was a Yenko that was delivered without stripes. Gates did receive a LeMans Blue Yenko Nova with a 427 transplant according to the VIN list.

I've been in contact with the fellas who owned this car in '71.

Whether shipped w/ 427 or not, it'll be surprising if NCRS result is anything but Yenko as Myron noted above.
It could've been Hult sold new as William said, here's one in an Old Newspaper Ad immediately below also other Yenko 427 Nova ads close proximity wise selling used over the years?

There's a few more 427 Nova ads in this 12/20 thread but color wrong or too far away to be as likely...

Is it possible Dale sold this example as a new leftover after becoming a Yenko Dealer?:hmmm:
If not, it may've acquired the badge when sold there used as the Yellow '69 427 Nova in the 10/70 Ad waaay below?

.

I've got the Hult car owner tracked down. The car was Garnet Red.

This was the Gates car, according to the 2nd owner. The car was stolen in '71 and left in a river. This is the first time I'm sharing this image. It's hard to see, but there appears to be two emblems on the rear valance.

The top ad is the 2nd listing for the Hult Nova. He purchased the car after the original owner returned the car to Hult.

I've found the owner of the Viking Camaro. He passed away in 2016. He also ran a Camaro known as Viking 2. He was out of Chicago.

Many times these drag cars (Viking, etc..) would be showcased in a dealership prior to an upcoming drag racing event. Yunker, Hult, Bob Johnson, Dale, and Broadway all sold Chev Supercars in '69 in Wisconsin. This event at Braeger could have been a showcase for a Great Lakes Dragway event. Many times drag cars sat on the showroom floor in the days prior to an upcoming drag racing event. The Nova could have been loaned to Braeger (or dealer traded) to drum up hi-po muscle car sales.

A few years ago I was offered the Dale Chevrolet archive of invoices for 25K. I have no idea where they ended up.

Is this photo at Dale Chevrolet?

someone posted that it is from Braeger Chev ?

I found an old photo of Braeger and a ad from Dale 1969 advertising 1969 427s

it is early in the investigation of this car so some conflicting info is coming out.

I think it will take some time to get all the info correct , and paperwork , photos, etc

I searched for the Viking Funny car on a FC site and didn't find it but found the Dale Super Hugger run by Bernie Adams from Milwaukee, WI.

It definitely doesn't have any stripes in that picture. When I asked my friend if he knew what happened to the car he said he didn't. He didn't remember the original owner having the car very long.

That seems to fit the narrative of it not having stripes.
