Leave the stripes.
Offer as an option to the new buyer with the approx cost/resources. BTW... I love em! |
"He would, of course, completely paint the whole hood and decklid, but I'll bet he wouldn't have to blend anything."
No doubt Chris would do a great job. But if this is true (painting entire hood and deck lid), then it wouldn't be original paint, would it. I was under the impression that the original black paint was underneath the stripes. Am I wrong? |

Hey Charley, I’m in the same boat with my Carolina Blue LS5 convertible survivor. A previous owner added the stripes… which most people seem to like the looks of, but I’m thinking the car would be more unique without them. Apparently my car’s stripes were done in a non-lacquer paint, so the right reducer should take them off. Don’t know if I have the guts to try that on an original paint car? Here’s photos of mine with and without stripes.
With respect to yours, I agree to leave em for the next owner to decide. I’m considering selling my car this year and I’ll likely do the same. |
Sheww that carolina blue vert will get a lot of attention.

That Carolina Blue looks much better with the stripes, it accents the black top well and breaks things up. The before and after pics really brings that home. My opinion, and obvious from the pole numbers here, the stripes are preferred and would likely make that an easier sell when the time comes.
Mine is originally Carolina Blue, no stripes, but also no vinyl top (hardtop) so there was nothing to break it up at all. It was just way too much of that blue, I couldn't stand it and no one else liked it either. At a minimum it needed stripes but I couldn't even bring myself to put Carolina Blue back on it when I repainted it last fall. |
My buddy has '70 LS6 green/green auto we bought off the forum years ago... its a crowd pleaser because it doesn't have stripes. A black car would look sinister without stripes
|
It seems like these days no one cares much for documents or history if it’s got cool options wether it was born with them or not no one cares. If it had tach gauges cowl hood and a center console it would get that much more attention I think

My 69 RS Z is a different story. When I restore it, it'll be a flat hood and no spoiler Z as it was when new, and the Frost Green will go back on it. |
IMHO...stripes on a Black car takes away the "evil is happening" look.
