Never underestimate the buying power of drunken millionaires. They pay ten times the going rate at Scottsdale for Batmobiles and Futureliners and stuff.
I was out at the $3500 opening bid but it looked like just two rich guys were interested and it really didn't gain in big increments after getting to two and half mill in a couple seconds. Pretty decent return on the guys investment though and I wonder what the future holds for the car? |

I figured it would go around 1.5-1.7 range. Did better than I thought.
I looked at the NYSE being way up, so people are investing that $$$ for a return that these cars are not doing anymore. So as I saw the L88 rag be a no sale at $375,000 I figured the money's not really there for the high high end stuff. Some of the major players have been selling off and not coming back. Youngin's just don't value these cars the same way...... |
Anybody know who got it? Is it staying in the US?

Cheap! I do not understand..... they pay for some Ferrari Junk, Mercedes, Porsche... but this is a one of one Steve Mc Queen. Better than any Rembrandt.

I'm surprised it didn't sell for more and sell on Saturday during "Prime Time" like when the bus and the LS6 conv brought crazy money years ago. If Frank bought it maybe Friday was intentional to keep the price down for him.

Frank is the name of the Bidders Asst.,(Not the Name of the Buyer),who helped get that Bid.
The auctioneer mentions the name of each Bidders Asst. and the end of a sale so the paperwork people know where to go to get the signature. In this case,Danas son,Frank Mecum. https://journal.classiccars.com/2019...auction-block/ |
