My first new car! 1973 Formula Firebird. Same color combo, only mine was a 455 (this one is a 400) and mine had no rub strips on it.

It was originally built for "Bunkie" Knudsen

Though it has all the styling cues of a 1965 Corvette, it is actually a 1964 with the cues added. It also has a low performance 396 (due to AC and Powerglide) making this the first 396 installed car. The lettering on the glove box door under the Corvette emblem is "BELL" which was Florence's nickname.

Wonder what a set of “Pink Lines” would go for today?

If I was the head of styling's wife, and he showed up with a pink car for me - I'd be a widow.

Unless you have seen others, I'd be willing to believe they were a 1 off just for that car.

The reason why the nose color will look different from the rest of the car was because it was painted in lacquer while the body was painted in acrylic enamel.

That car still exists and is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mi.

It was recently treated to a very gentle "touching up" after return from an event in Europe (Goodwood, I think), but with as much of the original content untouched (including a broken windshield that was left in place).

The bump in the roof is to clear Dan Gurney's helmet, since he was about 6' 4" tall.

My '80 Chevy pickup front fenders matched the rest of the truck like that and the whole thing was enamel.
