Minty unused 1965 edition complete, with a spare Bad guy.

Still have mine. Parents bought it for me at a shop in the Fisher Building in downtown Detroit. No box, bad guy missing and for some reason I felt the need to color the pop-top roof panel black.

Could this be the line at AO Smith?

Strange 427 Green Cobra in the add. It has a 289 style exit before the tire exhaust and front braced roll bar. The only 427 I know of with a front braced roll bar is CSX3002 and that has a 289 style front scoop.

----Tim,,, You probably have the club book with all the various Cobra's listed by serial #. I'm pretty sure he is still listed as the owner in that time period. Soon after I went to work at Classic Motors the boss came to me and asked if I had a relative named Dave. I said yes and he said he had just bought the car from a guy outside of Washinton DC. We had the Cobra restored and ultimatly sold it. I know where the car is today in N.J. and it's not for sale, not that I could even remotely afford it now. ----When my cousin had 3003 for sale he offered it to me for $5500. I had a new 427/435 Corvette coupe and didn't have a dime to spare. Even though I tried to borrow the money, no one would trust a dummy like me so I had to pass. It should be a sore spot with me, but strangely it isn't......Bill S |

That’s me riding shotgun around 1981 in the hills of Danville, Ca.
It felt like I was riding in a large “aluminum” can with massive horsepower. Also very warm inside that monster. He also had a 289 cobra in the garage. |
----Very cool, Chris!!!.....Bill S

Chris, that is a gorgeous car, what great pictures. It looks like it has the Starburst wheels on it due to the overhang of the fenders.

I think these wheels were called “Sunburst” as I have an old Chevron ad using a 427 Cobra.
Gorgeous Halibrand Sunburst pin-drive wheels. |

When Ford put together the Thunderbolt program to win Super Stock, Mercury also wanted to go racing. But Ford didn't want the competition. So Mercury was forced to run 10" slicks and compete in FX class versus 7" which was the max for Super Stock. |

Ford wasn't sure that the NHRA would accept the Thunderbolt Fairlanes for Super Stock competition, so to hedge their bets they continued with the 427 Galaxie Lightweight program. |
