"Adding salt to water makes it boil faster"

Just the opposite. Salt water has a higher boiling point so it will take longer to boil.

"Adding oil to pasta water stops it sticking"

True . . . but there an unwanted side effect . . . the sauce won't stick to the pasta.

"Sauté onion and garlic at the same time."

Not a good idea because the garlic will cook much faster then the onions leaving you with burnt garlic. Best to throw the garlic in just a few minutes before the onions are fully sauted

"To cook potatoes put them directly into boiling water."

If you do you will wind up with uncooked centers. For an evenly-cooked potato, place in cold water with some salt and use a steady heat to bring up to the boil.

"Scrambled eggs need milk."

No they don't. That leads to runny eggs with a diluted flavor. Just use eggs and give them a vigorous whisk before cooking them in hot butter.

Tomatoes need refrigerating

When you bought them, did you get them from a refrigerator? Nope. Keep tomatoes on the kitchen worktop out of direct sunlight and once ripe eat within 3-5 days. To speed up the ripening process, place the tomatoes in a paper bag with an apple, which releases ripening ethylene gas.

AFAIK those are not the original tires that came with the car. GR70x15 WSW radials were standard with RWL being offered mid year.

You are correct. They would have come with the 1973 Firestone 500 tires in either white stripe or white letter versions. These were the ones that were recalled for exploding and killing dozens of people. It was Firestone's first attempt at making a radial tire. The big mistake was using an existing bias ply mold that placed so much stress on the internal structure that the steel cords would snap without warning and unravel like a cat o'nine tails...only with several thousand tails.

They were also known to explode inside the Corvette's spare tire well and the unraveling steel cord would act like a chain saw, ripping through the fuel tank and the rear body panels.

(These are the same tires that I still have on my '73 SD455 that somehow escaped the recall process).

Here's what one looks like in unexploded condition...and an NOS one after it exploded in my garage. It was not mounted on the car at the time. I had been saving it as a spare...just in case one of the originals blew up.

The Slinky Was Created by Accident. Inventor Richard James, a naval engineer, was trying to create a spring that could help stabilize equipment on boats in choppy waters. However, his spring’s ability to move seemingly on its own proved more interesting, and became the prototype for the Slinky in 1943. More than 300 million Slinkys have been sold since it hit the market in 1945.

Keep in mind that the survey that produced the results came from polling 2000 adults that live in the UK. I am sure the list would have looked different if they had polled USA adults instead.
