I wish, I would love to shoot a original Cobra in a barn.
No, this is actually a Mopar. There will be pictures at MCACN and it should be in Hot Rod next month. |

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
That Vixen on page 199 sure brought back some memories---In 1987 our dealership started selling Sterlings. The Sterling was a British car powered by an Acura drivetrain---in theory not a bad idea, in reality not so much. It lasted a few short model years. Only a few salespeople were "allowed" to sell the Sterlings and it was mandatory that we (the select few) be well educated on the product. It seemed that the buyers were as "unique" as the cars. I had a repeat buyer that absolutely loved HIS Sterling and bought one for his wife and his then 21 year old son. When the family came in for delivery of the son's car they arrived in a brand new Vixen. At the time, I didn't know what it was and frankly, had never even heard of them. I distinctly remember entering the Vixen through a side door and it felt as though I was "stepping down" due to a low floor design. That was the only one I had ever seen until the pics appeared here.

Found this on another site, but unfortunately don't know the time or the story. If you look closely, you can see the 'Bird emblems at the bottom of the fenders, the big drum brakes and, most telling, the 15" spinner wheelcovers that only came on hipo Galaxie500XL's. You will also see the front tires look unworn, while the rear is almost bare. This is almost certainly a 1964 Ford Galaxie500XL likely fitted with the R-code 425hp 427 or possibly the Q-code 410hp 427 that was parked in a lake or river sometime in the mid '60s. My guess is that the owner bought it, beat it, and decided the 427 could find a home in a lighter car and he could be relieved of payments if he reported it stolen.

This one is close to my house. It's a 67 396/325 car without original motor.
The car was bought at an estate auction many years ago. A friend of mine was at the auction and bought a 67 vert, he bid on this car but did not bring enough cash to keep bidding. Later he found out that the auction co. would take a check. I stopped by one day about 5 years ago and talked to the owners brother. Left my card and told him if he ever decided to sale to please call. He has not called and the car is still there. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
I'm sure he's going to restore it some day...................

If that's an original Cobra then yes. I'd love to shoot it. That's on my "Barn Finding Bucket List".
And about the Camaro in NC. That is sad to see. I might stop by there next time I visit in February. Hopefully he will atleast let me shoot the car! Ryan And not to go away empty handed.... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8489/8...0f6075f1_c.jpg Ryan |

Does my own car count? I finally started it and took it for a ride around the driveway after being up on stands for 6-1/2 years. Hasn't been on the road since 1998. It has 7900 Sunday-only miles on it.
It is an original magazine project car from 20 years ago. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...0-p1000104.jpg |

My memory is as bad as yours. Yes, back in 93 or 94 it was piloted by a pro at one of the major SCCA events as my co-driver. If I recall correctly, the name Roger Johnson, maybe??? He had connections to BFG because he basically snapped his finders and new tires would appear, in a size that BFG didnt really make, yet. (Update: yup, it was Roger Johnson, the famous Corvette racer:) http://www.rogues-racing.com/spirt-of-the-sport-roger-e-johnson/. See question #4 This car was the first Viper to show up on any SCCA course as they were so new, no one was crazy enough to play with one...except me, I guess. At the time, the Vipers were not even classed by SCCA yet, so it was placed in the A-Street Prepared (ASP) class. I let Randy Pobst drive the car at a SCCA SOLO II event in Florida in 1994. His first time behind the wheel, he beat my best time by a half a second. (a very large gap on a short autocross course) I remember Randy signing off on my SCCA license. His comment was "He drives rather conservatively, shouldn't crash much." Here's the rest of the story: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...per#Post145381 |

Was that Cuda Greg Jacksons car? Remember something about finding the original engine in England years ago. Ron...

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Craig Jackson's was the purple 1970, not the purple 1971. The engine in England was for his 1970.

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Shady past of 71 FC7 Hemi Cuda.
The story goes, apparently the car was stolen and stripped in 1974 and put through insurance, whomever the owner was got the insurance money and went on with his life, but the car never got crushed (although some say it did). Fast forward 25 years and apparently someone found a purple Cuda door, with the original VIN sticker on it stating it was from one of the ultra rare 71 Hemicuda convertibles. A few phone calls were apparently made, someone got a huge finders fee for the door and the hunt was on for more possible remnants of the sacred beast. The story goes blank again but apparently this is around the time that the front cowl was found under some brush inside an Indian reserve in Southern BC. The story goes on to say that they found its inner fender and outer fender on another ‘Cuda, yet you can clearly see the cowl-hulk still has both of its inner fenders. From there, the parts and pieces were taken and the car was “restored” (had the parts put on another Cuda convertible body and called it real). They had reproduction VIN and fender tags made for it, a date-coded warranty block 426 Hemi engine was installed and the car crossing the auction block is essentially what they ended up with. Moparites are hopeful that photos of the “restoration” will be shown when it crosses the auction block and that hopefully someone will spill more details about its questionable – and colorful past. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
.... would they consider that car to be a "re-body"? |

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
my buddy shot the pic, you can tell its a cell phone pic...by the way its cropped... i just happened onto it working on my potobucket acct. I forgot about it til i saw this post.
Im a member over there at the chevelle forum too..i may have posted it here too..as far as i know, im the only one thats ever posted pics of it..i use the same screen name everywhere... I know it made it over on the charger forum too, i believe a guy said something like..."even the chevy boys are finding rare cars" or something like that...i cant believe its been that long ago...i had every charger guy pm'ing me about the car for a few weeks... Its in southern Indiana, its not for sale, and the guy that has it is going to restore it. The last time i talked to my buddy,a pharmacist with some money, not just a stroker, they where still working on the guy i havent talked to my buddy in about a year, so im not sure if they got it or not, he's newly married, and cars arent important right now. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
That's cool. That's 3 barn find Charger 500's in Indiana. One in North Central, one by Indianapolis and now this one. Very cool. Gotta see if I can go find it on one of my expeditions.
Doing an article now on this Charger 500 I shot last year. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5342/7...78be1bb2_z.jpg |
