Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Sorry to hear this Ryan. We just lost my wife's mom who lived with us for more than 23 years....in August.
We're praying for your dad (prayers work!) and he's in God's hands. |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Cars are irrelevant at times like this. Go spend as much time as you can with your dad. That Olds will be there until you are tired of it. Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Thanks for the wonderful comments and support.
My Dad passed away yesterday and I decided to add a separate thread for Dad in memoriam. There will be ice cream in 2017 but Dad's will be Rocky Road followed by Heavenly Hash. Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Taking a few baby steps back to the real world today.
Chatted with Nick Morocco today about Dad and my M22Z, he is gathering parts and figuring out the specifics. This trans is going to be kick ass perfect!!! He and Jody R Hagg are making all the descisions to try to make it last. I intend to pound on it and they know I have no idea what I am doing :-) We had a "family meeting" today and I had cancelled our trip to MCACN but today we put it back on the table:-) Jamie and I will be there but only Saturday and half of Sunday. Jamie and I have had some of the best times with Dad at MCACN and feel it is the right thing. He was a happy guy and loved seeing joy in his family and friends. SITTING HOME SULKING IS NOT ON THE AGENDA!! Chatted with Bob Ashton and even after cancelling "working" at MCACN last minute he welcomed us with open arms:-) (now spectator only:-( Ryan |

Wow Ryan, sorry to hear that. Didn't get to meet him but, he always seemed eager to lend a hand and make it fun, and always smiling. Now heel be watching from above, and through your sons eyes. The show will be good for you to escape realty for awhile. Take care. Steve

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I called the machine shop last night and we have finally agreed on a reciprocating solution:-)
I had many options and ideas and they had ideas and options. In the end we agreed on a 6.5% increase in cost and a significant increase in good stuff:-) the bottom end will be: Fel Pro gaskets Valley pan gasket Stock oil pan Melling oil pump standard volume, standard pressure Melling oil pump drive Melling oil pump pick up Arp bolts, mains, harmonic damper, heads, (rods come with Arp) 292 ford rear main seal (neoprene) Comp Cams "K" camshaft kit Clevite bearings (all) Eagle I Beam 6.200 SBC rods Wiseco Pro True 400 SBC pistons Wiseco "H" ring set N nodular cast iron crank 0.010" under on mains and ground to SBC rod journal 2.100" I am now ver excited about the outcome, I was really not feeling good about the other options but this will now be a real kick butt set up. The pistons have all the improvements one would want: Forged 4320 Aluminum 0.068" overbore 4.125 OD (362 Cubic Inches) Light weight Thin rings set 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 Smaller floating pins at SBC diameter 0.927 vs SBO 0.980" Short compression height 1.425 vs 1.615 The rods are the main improvement that I was after, if a rod fails all is lost: I beam Forged lower cost SBC size Now my engine is on the right track Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Im sure it feels good to make a decision and moving forward. Keep it up!!

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I am now confident:-) Which feels great!!

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Good improvements you made to the short block ,with your increased rod ratio and the lighter sbc. rod, piston assembly otta wind up much faster now.Should be a stout little small block.Well done.Marc.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I have talked to several Olds engine builders and read everything online.
Many people have been very helpful:-) This seems to be the best way to build my engine. Obviously there are so many variations but this is the only combination that fits my budget and fits the PSMCDR rules. I plan to have 9.9 to 1 static compression and 7.9 to 1 dynamic Compression and I am leaving 2 full points of compression on the table by the PSMCDR rule of stock plus 1.5 points. I wish I could dyno this engine as SBC guys have thousands of write ups to follow and SBO info has to find. Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The heads are #5 1969 W31 all the way, The only change will be hardened exhaust valve seats. All the K kit items finish off the valve train.
