Thanks---I figured there'd be elbow grease in there somewhere.....The seats do look good though gotta pass the info to a friend...--Somehow I think when you're cleaning a car seat under a clear Hawaii sky you don't think about elbow grease.........But I could be wrong...Yeah Right.........

We have an old '69 Camaro sitting at my son's house. Body ain't much to look at right now but the interior was nice. We used this process, even using toothbrushes to get into the tiny embossed areas, and the seats are nearly perfect.

That Houndstooth interior looks fantastic. You've got some good help there Steve! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: DANA "427" Camaro found...thanks to Jeff Chlupsa

Just wanted to say thanks to Jeff for hauling me all around Hawaii and giving me the real tour of the islands. And of course Steve who contacted me about the car on a Wednesday and needed me there on Friday. Even though I knew about this car for about 2 years, I was never certain the car would be bought. Also I would like to thank Bert, his brother Bruce, and there mother for making everything go real smooth. Bert your Mom is great and she was always making sure we were never hungry. And thanks to Brian for providing his truck and trailer to move the car.

This car is without question one of the neatest finds I can think of. The car is in remarkable shape and I really think we should be able to use nearly everything over in the restoration. The concerns I had about the car from the pictures were layed to rest in person. It would appear at this time that the interior should be a beautiful survivor. Like so many thngs on the car, they will clean up great. What rust that is present is for the most part light surface rust and would appear the metal is unharmed. Certain things that amaze me about the car are the little things like the rear package try that has NO deterioraton what so ever, one of the first things to turn bad due to sun fade etc. The underside is super clean and should provide us with the perfect blueprint on how the car was painted as well. The surviving drivetrain components are incredible. The bulk of the entire Dana installed equippment is still intact. The only major item lost would be the Doug Headers. They simpley failed the test of time. A suitable replacement will be on the "needs list". The paperwork on the car is nothing short of amazing. SCW looks forward to to bringing back this DANA Camaro to it former glory. Thanks to Steve and Bert, that will happen. We will try our best to do the car justice...BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Are those Cragars from 'the day'? How about the tires?

The CRAGARS are direct bolt pattern "from the day" mags...The tires are old school as well, but the tires are unusable. I am still surprised they held air...BKH

If that is orig paint I think I would use that rust removal stuff that NJsteve is using and just remove all the rust. Then polish the paint and Boeshield the bare metal. What a great survivor.

Congratulations on the purchase Steve, and that was great of Jeff to lay the groundwork for you to be able to acquire the car. The car is a neat time capsule and will be very special when completed. I've found a '67 Camaro from Dana outside the US with Dana paperwork but no proof via paper that the car had a 427 installed by Dana even though the "folklore" which follows the car says it did. Anyway, not nearly as cool as what you have but some of the Dana stuff, as well as cars from the other heavy hitters, is still out there. It's always great to hear these resurrection stories and see the accompanying photos. Best of luck with the car.

DANA did do work to the Z28's but more to beef up the 302 versus a 427 buildup. They also got upgraded in the suspension and traction areas

I agree with Pete (as usual) it is only original once. I would not disturb the oil change sticker. And there is something about that unique tropical corrosion on the tops of the fenders. I would do the drivetrain, drive it and show it.
( for a while at least...don't most car guys get bored with the ride after a couple of years?)

Steve congrats on the acquisition of this magnificent time capsule. My recommendation is to detail it a bit, install the drivetrain and then enjoy it as is for a period of time. BTW we would love to have this one certified through our Vintage Certification program as well.

What makes this site so enjoyable is the cooperative atmosphere and helpful folks that make up this site. Kudos to Jeff, Brian and a host of other people that helped make this happen.

are you guys [Vintage Camaro] at Carlisle this summer again judging/certifying cars, Steve? I have 3 other cars from here going to the indoor display at Carlisle this summer, so MAYBE Brian and I can figure out a way to get this 68 DANA conversion Camaro there too [before restoration commencement]. I haven't spoken with Brian since his long trip to Hawaii, but I plan to contact him later this week to discuss a strategy best befitting this car.
