Ken,
I wish I lived around the corner too. I have a proper spring compressor I could have lent to you, or just done it for you. There's an art to positioning one of those things. SAFETY is always the first concern - not a speedy job. Stitches on Christmas Eve..............I'll bet you won't forget this holiday!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif Anyway, I hope you're ok. (hands or head?) Verne Ken......in the future, please ask for help for A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G that you're not sure of. We're here to help if we can. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Actually......What happened was that I decided to remove the upper and lower control arms on the rear end (one side at a time) to glass bead and paint them.......I removed the lower arm first after jacking up the frame with a bottle jack on the lift to remove just about all the spring tension (the plan almost worked) , when I took out the second bolt from the lower arm, the spring still had a slight amount of tension and the Spring/arm assy wedged itself against the rear end housing.....I pushed it with my hand (Stupid) instead of a screwdriver and there was just enough tension on the arm that when I pushed it out of the way it caught my hand between the arm and rear end housing....Damm that hurt..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif but the arms sure look good now....

Re: Biscayne Resto Project
I thought it was the front springs. I have never heard of anyone getting wacked with a rear one.

The "Finished Parts" ready for assy bench is starting to get Full........whenever I get overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done, I go in the basement and look at the bench and think of how much fun it's going to be putting this stuff back together.......
The Engine is being machined and should be back in the garage in a couple of weeks (Thanks to Tom Williams Wilmasboy) for the cylinder heads.......This is the point of the project where you seem to be overwhelmed and it seems to never end.....I've been there before, but to someone who has never done this before......It's one piece at a time and every one needs to be touched.......believe me ........the guy's that restore cars for a living understand that most people don't have a "Clue" how much Time and work is required.......Hat's Off to you guy's... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC03775.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC03776.jpg I had to "Cheat" a little bit and spray a little paint on the underside to see the result of the "Dirty Days" http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC03781.jpg Ken |

Hey Ken,
Sounds like it's going to be a cool car. We are in the process of restoring a White/red 65 Biscyane 2 door 409/400 right now. We are planning to paint it around the end of February and have it all done around May also. The 409 is all done and I just tore the M21 apart today for rebuilding. I'll look forward to seeing your car when it is done! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Steve |

Looking fantastic. Did it need a paint job. Looking at the pics it looks pretty good. Then again, so do most of the cars on Ebay https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif.

Re: Biscayne Resto Project
You mean it won't be a Monte Carlo anymore?
|
Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Ken,
Educated us on big cars. I know early Vettes (and would assume other late 50's early 60's cars) did not have paint codes. So the original color of the car is typically only found in the hidden areas like under the carpet and in the seat retainers (etc). Are full-size cars the same way, where there is no paint code? Or do you just want to paint it white verses the "original" color? Nice work. Good luck! |
Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Actually........The guy that owned the car was a "Moron".....when he listed it on eBay, he had it listed as being a Monte Carlo and being White (actually it's Beige) in color.....the pictures that he posted along with the ad were probably a couple of years old.........(my fault for not going to look at it)..........it's a super solid car and I guess I saved it from the guy that had it as I don't think he was a "Car" guy........ When the car showed up, the inside of the car was filled with "Mold" and mechanically and electrically there were some "Issues"......the car was stored outside and was a very nice car at one time, but this guy didn't have a clue..........
He never even bothered to clean it........shipped it filthy dirty....The bottom line is......I'll be very happy with it when it's finished to my "Standards".......But if I had bought it with the intentions of just driving it,I would have been very dis-appointed....... I've been very "Lucky" (read "Solid") buying cars off eBay, but I have always bought knowing that I was going go thru anything I bought and paid accordingly.....again, it's my Winter therapy.......with a car at the end.....LOL Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Nice work. Good luck! Dan.......Actually the paint code for the car is "V" which is Cameo Beige.........I just don't like the car that color.......I'm leaning towards White or possibly Sandalwood,or ?????????? Doing the work is easier that picking a color........ Ken |
Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Ken.....you really need to paint it what ever color you like and makes you happy. If you like pink, paint it pink, you like sandlewood, paint it sandlewood. Personally, I think that car will look awesome whatever color you paint it.....except pink! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
|
Re: Biscayne Resto Project
DON'T PAINT IT PINK! And if you like pink then ....(fill in the blank)..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Update..........The Paint shop, after starting to block the car out, decided that the second paint job that was on the car was suspect and we are now going to take the car in for Media Blasting.......They want to start from the bare metal and work up.......I'm getting an education in Chemical (Paint) Compatibility........Oh Well, at least it will be done correctly https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Re: Biscayne Resto Project
Also.......After seeing the original color of the car while sanding (Gobi Beige) and looking at Marlin's car in Chevy Rumble..........I've decided to paint the car back to it's original color as it will be a "Unique" color combo..........So, Marlin......there will be at least two Gobi Beige cars around....LOL
